Morgantown, WV (8/17/2007) -
Racer Productions, in accordance with Bellco,
Inc., producer of the 20th Annual Monster Energy/Kawasaki
Pro Motocross National at Steel City Raceway,
promotes the efforts to encourage competition
at the never-before-seen AMA Pro ATV Open Invitational.
Harlen Foley, administrator of ATVriders.com,
has delightfully upped the ante to $500 for the
ATV Open holeshot award. The race will take place
Saturday, August 25th at Steel City Raceway, sharing
the weekend with Round 10 of the AMA/Toyota Motocross
Championships presented by FMF. This unique event
will bring twenty of the fastest AMA Pro ATV riders
in front of the national caliber crowd in Delmont,
PA for the first time in history.
“I think this is an incredible event
for the ATV racers to finally be able to race
on the same track and the same weekend as the
bikes,” Harlen said. “We
want to show how talented the ATV riders are in
comparison to the bikes. It’s going to be
great for the spectators to see the ATVs run,
and I think it’s a great opportunity. It
could be a good boost for the sport to get the
recognition it deserves. In the last couple of
years, the level of competition has stepped up
and these riders are just as talented as the bikes.”
Normally ATVriders.com offers a $100 holeshot
award in each moto of the Pro class at the ATVA
ITP/Moose Racing National Motocross Series, so
the amount for the ATV Open was increased to $500
for a reason. “ATVriders.com is dedicated
the sport of the racing; when we found out [about
the ATV Open,] we wanted to be involved,"
Harlen said. "We want to really attract
the riders to come out and race this event and
make the purse even sweeter for these guys.”
As for predictions, Harlen was reassuring. “The
best man will win,” he laughed. “I
think the ATVs had the opportunity to race there
last year, [and] Keith Little won it with 2-2.
The track has a lot of TT-style turns to it; a
lot of high-speed corners, and it gets hard packed,
so I'm sure Keith will do well."
Steel City has hosted a round of the AMA Motocross
Championship since 1988, and hosted a round of
the ITP/Moose Racing ATVA MX Nationals for the
first time last year. The track features plenty
of elevation changes and jumps, all laid out in
a valley which provides some of the best spectator
viewing in the sport. Amateur racing takes place
on Friday. The Main Gate (#1) opens at 4pm on
Thursday, and overnight camping is available starting
Thursday evening. There are no electric or water
hook-ups. Due to the large amount of guests and
the size of the rigs, we cannot permit campfires
of any kind. Adult gate admission is $50 on Thursday
and Friday, $40 on Saturday, and $30 on Sunday.
Children 5 and under are free. Tickets are available
at the gate, with all complimentary passes arranged
in advance.
