The season finale featured a unique doubleheader
format with two races for each class: a short
course event held on the venue’s Lucas Oil
course and a longer desert race. Though his
best finish of the weekend came in the Pro
Production class, Hancock said he enjoyed
the close racing in Pro Stock. His results
on the year showed it with a victory and two
podiums to his credit.
“I love racing the stock class car,” said
Hancock. “That class tends to always have
tight races, which is fun. There some tough
competition in this class, so to finish on
the podium in points for two years in a row
is a big accomplishment.”
Driving his Polaris RZR equipped with Elka
Shocks and Maxxis tires, Hancock did what
he had to do in the finale to net the final
spot on the championship podium. The conservative
pace paid off as he scored another year in
the top three in points.
“In short course, I made some moves in the
race, but I had trouble in qualifying and
started way back,” said Hancock. “I think
a mid-race caution would have helped me a
lot. That’s not how it played out, but it
went really well. The Maxxis Ceros tires really
hooked up in the blue groove.”
In the desert race, Hancock snagged the holeshot
on his row. He stayed ahead of his nearest
competitor to finish ninth in the race.
“I got the holeshot and I set my groove,”
said Hancock. “I had to beat Randy to keep
my points, so I set out to do that. I didn’t
want to do anything stupid and jeopardize
my points position.”
Hancock was pleased with his overall season.
Despite the ups and downs of racing results,
Hancock had fun this year.
“I had some good races and some bad races,
but the Polaris RZR just ripped this year,”
said Hancock. “It takes the whole team to
get here.”
Hancock will return to the WORCS Series when
it starts its 2019 season January 26-27th
back at Buffalo Bill’s Casino.
