MCR's Beau
Baron Crowned 2009 WORCS Pro ATV Champion
|
Mesquite, Nevada - A nail biter
from start to finish, the final round of the 2009
WORCS series saw Can-Am Motoworks’ Josh Frederick
take his first win since returning from injury,
however, a new champion was crowned as Mike Cafro
Racing’s Beau Baron overcame the odds to win
his first ever WORCS Pro ATV Championship.
The final round of the 2009 WORCS series was
a highly anticipated one as there were many variables
that could have a dramatic effect on who would
take the Pro ATV championship. Beau Baron only
needed to place eleventh or better to take the
championship even if Josh Frederick won the race,
but if anything were to happen over the course
of the two hour race, Can-Am Motoworks’
Josh Frederick or Jeremie Warnia could easily
have the championship. But as fate would have
it, Beau Baron and the MCR team overcame the challenges
put before them, allowing Baron to take the 2009
WORCS Pro ATV Championship.

Tires's Beau Baron was hard on the gas as
he chased after the WORCS Pro ATV Championship |
Baron, who was planning on riding smart and consistently,
in order to make sure he finished, came off the
line in the top ten and was running in a consistent
fifth place when disaster struck in the second
lap. Baron had hit hard on a whoop and his TRX
450R had shut off and would not re-fire. “At
that point I thought I had lost it and had no
chance at the championship. I was really freaking
out,” said Baron.
“I came around the corner and Beau was
sitting on the side of the track. It was a very
bad feeling,” said MCR team manager, Mike
Cafro. “Luckily, I had taken some precautions.
I had some tools and a tow strap with me so I
towed Beau the two miles back to the pits.”
“Mike stopped and was trying to keep me
calm and he ended up towing me back. I was getting
jerked all around on the way back to the pits
because he was hauling butt trying to get back
so we could fix the quad,” Baron recalled.
Back in the pits the team worked feverishly to
figure out what was wrong with Baron’s Honda
TRX 450R. It was determined that a coil wire had
broken, but by the time the wire was fixed, Baron
was a lap down and sitting in 21st place. “They
were working on the quad, and I was just watching
everyone out there, and then the guys I was following
came around and lapped me,” said Baron.
Feeling a little dismayed, Baron headed back out
and was on a mission to reach the top ten.

Suspension's Beau Baron (above left) looked
to MCR Pits for guidance heading into the
final lap as he needed atleast one more
position to claim the Pro ATV class championship
over Josh Frederick, so #417 Josh Row (above
right) was pulled into the pits before the
white flag lap to insure that Beau Baron
would gain the extra position he needed
to clinch the championship |
