Cody Miller Moves into 4x4 Pro Top Five at Snowshoe GNCC
Miller Racing’s GNCC Round 9 Race Report
Daniels, WV (6/30/2016) -
Can-Am Cody Miller’s difficult race in the Snowshoe GNCC 4X4 Pro race was a blessing in disguise. Though a hard crash took him out of competition while leading, he was unhurt and gained ground in the points championship.
Miller started on the second row in the unique Snowshoe Grand Prix style start, but was quickly challenging the front pack that started 10 seconds ahead of him. After taking the lead, though, Miller got caught in a washout and was thrown clear of his quad, which hit a telephone pole at full speed.

“The front pack were all battling with each other so I had a clear track and it was easy to narrow that gap,” said Miller. “It was hard terrain, and I had to take my time wherever I went. I moved up to third place physically and first with time adjustment. I had moved back one spot and was flying down one of the fire roads. I got into a wash that had gotten deeper every lap. It shot me from one side to the next, ejected me from the quad and it ran right into a telephone pole. Luckily I landed on the grass and ended with no injuries. I was unable to finish the race due to the damage.”

Despite not finishing, Miller finished in ninth place, which actually moved him up to a mathematical tie for fifth in points, which has seen six winners in just nine races. Miller has one of those wins to his credit, as well as an additional podium in just his first season of GNCC competition.

“It’s pretty amazing in nine races there are six different winners,” said Miller. “It just goes to show the level of competition in the 4X4 Pro class. It’s a close run. I’ve never before competed with this many even-keeled racers.”
Miller brought out a brand new Gates G-Force Clutch kit for Snowshoe. He said the unit’s simplicity helped him dial in the power, despite the venue’s 5,000-foot elevation. That combined with his Can-Am Outlander outfitted with Maxxis Tires and Elka Suspension easily put him in contention early in the race.
“My Can-Am Outlander handled it with ease,” said Miller. “I was able to roll over everything without getting bound up. Gates has helped me out with its new G-Force Clutch. That has my power on point. Being that high in elevation, I just had to turn a couple of clicks on the Gates Clutch setup and it was like I was at sea level. The Elka Shocks were working great. We’re going to do a test before the next race to make the Outlander go through the track a little faster.”
Miller is also an odds-on favorite to win the GNCC SXS XC1 Pro Championship. The SXS classes didn’t compete this weekend and return to action in October.
“I came into GNCC with my brother full steam ahead,” said Miller. “We went all-in on a small budget to prove that we could bring home some trophies. I’m glad to be winning the Side by Side class right now. That was my primary focus and the ATV class was supposed to be a learning year. I got into it and had some good results, so for a while there I thought I had a championship season in the works. In the 4X4 class, I’m just planning to go out there and try to win races while getting some experience for next year. This year is a learning curve and I’m picking up on it as fast as I can.”
GNCC is now on its annual summer break so Miller will be back in action in the ATV class September 10-11 at Unadilla MX in New Berlin, NY.
