Bakersfield, CA (9/21/2016) - H&M Motorsports’ David Haagsma won his second consecutive Pro ATV race as the WORCS Racing Series returned from its summer break for it second to last round at Glen Helen Raceway. Haagsma’s runner-up finish in the Pro SXS puts him second in the championship, just two points out of the lead with one race left.

David Haagsma took the Pro ATV Win at Glen Helen WORCS Round 9 |
Haagsma, who was running full time in the AMA ATV National Championship this season along with the WORCS Pro SXS class, was competing in just his fourth WORCS ATV race of the season. He has two victories and an additional podium in those four starts. Haagsma snagged the holeshot and then ran a consistent race, leading every lap for the victory ahead of Beau Baron.
“I kept watching Beau and the gap and it kept getting bigger and bigger,” explained Haagsma. “So I just ran my own race and made sure I wasn’t going too hard on myself or the bike because it was really hot today. I’m happy to get the win and I hope to get another one at Primm.”
Haagsma participated in a conditioning program all year as part of his ATVMX program. Even with the temperatures pushing 100-plus degrees at race time, he said he didn’t get winded.

Despite the hot temperatures, David Haagsma looked right at home on the legendary Glen Helen Raceway Motocross Track |
“I’ve been working with Dom from The Program on my conditioning and I didn’t even feel like I pushed myself that hard today,” said Haagsma. “We train in sweatshirts in the heat so it didn’t feel that hot at all today.”
Haagsma missed the ATV Pro Challenge to race here. His ATV MX teammate Joel Hetrick swept both motos to win that race.
“I still have a chance in the WORCS SXS and I’m within fighting distance of the championship, so I had to focus my efforts on WORCS,” said Haagsma. “It’s kind of sad that I had to miss that race, but I’m happy to be here.”

Cognito Motorsports' David Haagsma captured second place with adjusted time in his Polaris RZR in the Pro SxS Class |
In the Pro SxS race, Haagsma held on for second on adjusted time after physically finishing first. Many of the title contenders had issues, so Haagsma moves to second in points and the championship will come down to the final race in Nevada.
“We had a good race,” said Haagsma. “I lost by just a second or two, and that’s a difficult way to lose, but we made up some ground in the points. I have a good chance at the championship, so overall I’m pretty happy with the results.
“Sparks pushed me up to the front today after I had a slow start,” added Haagsma. “Everyone here was having issues and were battling their cars. I only had a few minor issues that didn’t really slow me down. I’m happy the car stayed together and we’re ready for the next round.”
Haagsma will compete in both the ATV and SXS races as WORCS heads to Buffalo Bills Resort and Casino in Primm, NV for its final race of 2016 on October 21-23.
