The day started out with Pro timed qualifying in which Rastrelli earned himself fourth place gate pick. From there, Rastrelli rocketed out of the gate thanks to his JB Racing Honda and Goldspeed tires. “I came out of the gate pretty well and nearly got the holeshot with a third place start.”

earned a fourth place gate pick for a muddy
first moto |
Rain saturated the track for the first moto costing Rastrelli his vision early on. He had to throw his goggles off and in the process lost some time, but Rastrelli put his head down and continued fighting.

“I was just in salvage mode trying to not make mistakes and clear my eyes. Thomas Brown made a mistake, so I made the pass on him. John Natalie and I also had a crazy battle. We were bumping and banging all over the place. It was a good time and I was able to hold Natalie off for fourth that moto.”
The muddy track conditions first moto provided the ultimate challenge. “It was really sticky mud that would stick to the helmet. My helmet was really heavy and it was a tough race. First moto was challenging physically and mentally for sure, “ said Rastrelli. Thankfully, the rain stopped and the track dried up for Pro Moto two.
In moto two, Rastrelli was off to a great start early on. “I came out eighth in the first corner, but the second corner everyone bunched up on the inside, and I went around the outside and came out fourth. It was pretty awesome to make that many passes right away.”
Later on that moto, Rastrelli made a great block pass on the inside of Nick Gennusa which placed him in second running behind Joel Hetrick. “I just rode my own race once I got out there. I pushed hard in the beginning and got a big gap, no one was really around me, and I stuck in my own pace. Chad Wienen put a charge on the last part. He made a move on me, and I tried to retaliate, but it did not happen, I got caught in my own pace out there. It was hard to break myself out of it, that is something I am going to go home and work on.”
With the brutal track conditions, Rastrelli was extra thankful for his Goldspeed Tires. “It was crazy, with how slick it was I was still pulling wheelies out of the corners. It was awesome. I have never experienced traction like that before. It was great to have traction no matter what the circumstances were.”
Rastrelli is delighted with the podium finish but is looking forward to the next round of racing. “I was happy with it, but you are never satisfied if you do not win. I am going to go home, put my head down, and train. I think its has showed these past two weeks. It was the first time I have came off the track and felt really good instead of feeling tired, so we are making progress that is for sure.”
Rastrelli will be back to AMA ATV Motocross National Championship racing at round five. The event will be held at High Point Raceway in Mount Morris, PA May 21-22, when Rastrelli will be looking to capture his first win of the season.
