Root River Racing’s Amateur ATV MX Race Report
La Crosse, WI (6/11/2016) - Root
River Racing once again had a dominating performance
at the 2016 AMA ATV Motocross National Championship.
The team competed in the sixth round of the series
at Monster Mountain MX Park in Tallassee, AL,
where the team accumulated nine total podium finishes.
Saturday’s motos were relatively dry, but serious
rainfall caused all second motos on Sunday to
be cancelled, including both Pro Am motos. The
first moto finishes counted for everything, which
played a huge role in the outcome of the Root
River rider’s finishes.
To no one’s surprise, Noah Mickelson once again
dominated the B classes with a win in both Open
B and 450 B. Mickelson has not finished worse
than second place all season long. “I was able
to pull both holeshots and lead the entire race
in both classes. Not finishing worse than second
all season is a great motivation and makes me
work harder to keep that streak going. Winning
is everything right now with last year being so
rough for me,” explained Mickelson.

Dylan Tremellen competed in Pro Sport, where
his blistering speed brought him to a second place
overall finish. “The track was really fun with
a lot of different lines. I came out of the holeshot
second behind Cole Sepesi and pretty much stayed
there for the whole race. I am chipping away at
the points in fourth and not too far out of reach,
so we are getting there.”

“We have been making little changes to my Root
River Racing Honda here and there and I think
we have pretty much got it exactly where I want
it to be. I am putting down faster laps each weekend
and I am ready to turn it around at the end of
the year, gain some points and get some overalls,”
stated Tremellen.
Haedyn Mickelson came in right behind his teammate
Dylan Tremellen in Pro Sport, taking third place
overall. “I managed to take third off the start
and held my ground there. It was pretty cool Dylan
and I were battling almost the entire race. I
got beside him a couple times but he shut the
door on me in the corners,” said Mickelson.

In the youth classes, Brandon Oneill had an excellent
weekend. Oneill took second in Youth All Star
and third in Supermini.
In Youth All Star, O'Neill had an incredibly
close race all the way down to the checkered flag.
“Dylan Mcclellan and I had an epic battle and
I ended up taking second overall. Dylan beat me
by 0.173 seconds. It was very intense. We went
back and forth all the race. The Honda pulled
well and handled excellent with the conditions
we had. Supermini I was dead last off the holeshot
and made my way up to third,” explained Oneill
of his impressive finishes.
Logan Tremellen took third overall in 450 B.
“It did not go as good as I planned, I had bad
holeshots in both my classes, but in 450 B I battled
back to third and got third overall. The track
was pretty awesome. Hopefully next race I can
do better and get the points lead back.”
JoHannah Vossman took two top five finishes,
third in Schoolgirl and fourth in WMX. “It was
not my best weekend. I had two second place starts
but took third in schoolgirl and fourth in WMX
and I did not get to redeem myself Sunday because
it was cancelled due to the rain. After getting
second in the star,t I wanted to stay second or
at least top three, but we will come back at IL.
I loved the track, the layout, and the facility
at Monster Mountain,” stated Vossman.
Alex Gillette came back to the races after a
break and put in a strong return performance,
taking ninth overall in College 16-24. “It was
good to be back on the bike and get back into
racing. I did not get a very good start but I
was able to work through the pack all the way
to fifth and control my position. I was pulling
on everyone, so my speed was there,” said Gillette
Tommy Vossman had a strong ride in Production
B, taking third place. “My machine was handling
great. I can not thank everyone enough.” In 450
B, Vossman battled his way up through the pack
and salvaged fifth overall, he is currently third
place in the championship points.
Vossman is excited to get to the next round to
see what he can do in the sandy soil at Sunset
Ridge. “I love Sunset Ridge, it is probably one
of my favorite tracks. Sand tracks are my thing,”
said Vossman.
In the A classes, Tyler Mack salvaged a seventh
place in Production A, and thirteenth in 450 A.
Mack is currently seventh place in the championship
points for Production A.
Root River Racing will compete at the seventh
round of the 2016 AMA ATV Motocross National Championship
at Sunset Ridge MX in Walnut, IL June 18-19.
