Amateur Spring Creek MX Race Report
La Crosse, WI (7/26/2016) - Root
River Racing’s amateur team competed at Unadilla
MX in New Berlin, NY during the ninth round of the
2016 AMA ATV Motocross Championship. The team collected
many top finishes, including four overall wins and
four other podium finishes. Both Noah Mickelson
and Logan Tremellen went undefeated, taking eight
moto wins and four overall wins together.
Noah Mickelson clinched two overall wins and
went undefeated in all four motos he entered during
Open B and 450 B. “This last weekend at Unadilla
was a blast. I redeemed myself by getting two
first places and having a perfect weekend. If
it wasn’t for Rich Gillette, Hoosier Tires, Motowoz,
and the Rage motor I could not have done it,”
said Mickelson, who continues to lead the points
for the national championship in both classes.
Logan Tremellen proved to everyone what an unstoppable
force he is, winning every moto of the weekend.
Tremellen competed in both 450 C and Production
C and took the overall win in both. He is first
in points in 450 C and second in Production C,
but only twelve points out of first.
Brandon O Neill captured his season best weekend
at Unadilla. O Neill grabbed three second place
overall finishes in Youth All Star, Schoolboy
Sr., and Supermini. The excellent performance
moved O Neill up in the points race, taking third
in Schoolboy Sr. and Youth All Star.
“I stepped my game up and proved to myself I
can run with Troy Hill and Peyton Zimmerman. I
finally put my head down and focused on what I
needed to do. It was a very big accomplishment
and was one of my goals this year. I am going
into Redbud with a whole bunch of confidence,
and I hope to be consistent and hang with the
top two again,” said O Neill.
Dylan Tremellen put his head down and rode his
Root River Racing machine to impressive finishes
in both Pro Sport and Pro Am. Tremellen also took
his first ever Pro Am holeshot during the second
moto of Pro Am.
“I had an awesome weekend at Unadilla. I had
some struggles Friday and Saturday, but turned
it around Sunday with fourth overall in Pro Sport
and third overall in Pro Am. I am finally getting
to where I need to be and closer and closer to
the front each weekend. I cannot thank everyone
who has stood behind me enough and cannot wait
for the next gate drop to prove what I am capable
of. Thank you to all my friends and sponsors for
all the love and support,” stated Tremellen.
Haedyn Mickelson persevered to put in a strong
ride in Pro Am, going 8-5 for fifth overall despite
an accident on Sunday morning. “This weekend was
a tough one for me. With a freak accident that
happened Sunday morning I was unable to race my
second moto in Pro Sport. In Pro Am I had a good
start with little problems happening in the first
lap that set me back. I raced to the checkered
and ended up with a fifth overall. I cannot thank
all the guys at Root River enough for the work
they put in on my bike to let me race Sunday.
If it was not for them I truly would not have
been able to do it,” stated Mickelson.
In the Schoolgirl class, JoHannah Vossman took
a top five finish. Vossman went 5-4 for fifth
overall. She also rode in WMX where she went 7-4
for sixth overall. Due to some mechanical issues
she rode on an unfamiliar loner bike thanks to
the Ford family.
“I could not be more thankful for the Ford family
and all they have done to help me as well as others.
A special thanks to Ronnie Higgerson for all his
help this weekend, between helping with the bike
and talking me through the stress filled weekend,
as well as Keith James and Rod Mickelson like
always. I have some great people around me, I
could not be more blessed,” graciously explained
Vossman.
Tyler Mack took seventh overall in Production
A. In the first moto Mack battled his way to sixth
and in the second moto he took a solid ninth.
In 450 A, Mack went 9-16 for 16th overall.
Alex Gillette had a great first moto in College
16-24, taking third. The second moto he backed
it up with an eighth for sixth place overall.
In 450 A, Gillette went 11-15 for 17th overall.
The Root River Racing amateur team will return
to AMA ATV Motocross National Championship racing
at the tenth round of the series at Redbud MX
in Buchanan, MI July 30-31.
