La Crescent, MN (3/18/2016) - Root
River Racing/Hoosier Tires Pro riders Josh Upperman
and Sam Rowe kicked off the AMA ATV Motocross National
Championship in the ATV Supercross at Daytona International
Speedway. Upperman finished seventh in the main,
while Rowe, making his series Pro debut, finished
16th.
Upperman came out in a mid-pack start and had
difficulties with the tight and narrow course.
The top-10 finish, however, will help him build
a great run for the 2016 titile.
“It was super tight racing,” explained Upperman.
“I let a little door open and I went off the track.
But we’re 10 steps ahead of where we were last
year. The bike was working really well. We have
to use this as momentum for the next race in Texas.
We have a whole month off and I have plenty of
time to train.
“Root River is awesome,” continued Upperman.
“They are great people. They are family oriented
and it’s awesome to work with Rich and everyone
else on the team. I can’t thank him enough for
what he does for me and what he does for the sport.”
Rowe stepped up from Pro-Am to run a full assault
on the Pro Class this season. Unfortunately, he
had difficulties at the start and finished 16th.
“I got in a crash at the start,” said Rowe. “Everyone
went wide, I squared it up and cut underneath
them. Everyone came back to the left and had nowhere
to go. So I ended up flipping. I’m ok; just a
little sore. We’ll be back for Texas.
“I wouldn’t want to be with another team,” added
Rowe. “I have to thank Rich and all of the guys
back at the shop. I had a bad day, but these guys
are what keep me going.”
Upperman and Rowe will be back in action as the
Root River Team next heads to Underground MX in
Texas April 9-10 for Round 2 of the AMA ATV Motocross
National Championship.
