La Crescent, MN (3/18/2015) - Root
River Racing had a strong opening performance at
the Daytona Supercross on March 8. The team debuted
their brand new look for this season with the new
1986 Honda retro color scheme. Not only did the
team look great, they also performed great with
nine top five finishes, including wins by both Tommy
Vossman and Noah Mickelson.
Root River Racing’s Tommy Vossman clinched his
first ever ATV national win when he placed first
in 450 B. “It was a flawless moto. I ripped the
start and did not look back. The whole Root River
bike and everything on there helped me to win.
To everyone that helped me out, I could not be
more grateful,” stated Vossman. New for Vossman
this year was his training program and personal
trainer, Dominic Sumpolec. “Sam Rowe and I have
been training since December. I changed a few
things in my program for 2016 and Dominic my personal
trainer has taken me to a new level in the fitness
game. I think that was a crucial piece that I
needed to run with the top guys,” explained Vossman.
Another Root River racer claiming a win at Daytona
was Noah Mickelson in Open B. This is Mickelson’s
first year racing on a 450 and he is already showing
major potential. “It was a lot of fun on my brand
new 450, and it was one of the best 450s I have
ever rode. Root River did an amazing job,” said
Mickelson. In the main event, Mickelson claimed
the holeshot and never looked back, staying out
front for the entire race. “I just tried to ride
my best and ride smooth, so it worked out,” said
Mickelson, who will be a force to be reckoned
with the remainder of the season in both Open
B and 450 B.
Competing in A class was Tyler Mack who took
fourth place in both 450 A and Production A. This
was Mack’s first time stepping up to A class,
which is quite the challenge. “It was a little
bit more difficult than I was expecting. I got
the start in two of the motos but I fell back
a little. I am happy where I finished, but I would
like to improve. Being on the Root River Racing
team is really nice, you get all the support and
it’s the best team out there by far. I really
like the Hoosier Tires. This is the first year
we have them and they really hook up good,” explained
Mack.
JoHannah Vossman made her Women’s class debut
and took home an impressive fourth place finish.
Vossman rides a 250 in the Women’s class, underpowered
from all the other 450’s she lines up next to,
but you wouldn’t know from watching her race.
“I pulled some pretty good starts being that I’m
a 250 on the gate full of all 450s. It’s surprising
being on such a powerful 250 and seeing what it
can do. My program has been helping me so much.
Dominic’s workouts have really helped and all
the support from Root River Racing. My bike was
running perfect again this year, just like last
year,” stated Vossman.
Dylan Tremellen raced in both ProAm and Pro Sport.
In Pro Sport Tremellen reported, “I came out I
think third and did some battling. By the end
of it I was out there by myself and ended a solid
fourth place finish. I tried not to wear myself
out for Pro Am.” In the Pro Am race, Tremellen
put in a strong ride to finish fourth as well.
“I’m looking forward to getting to a big track
and seeing what I can do there. Last year I wasn’t
able to train in between the races as much as
I would like to, or at all in the offseason. This
year we have been down in Texas training and Florida
for a few weeks now. I can tell a big difference
and I can’t wait to get to Texas and see what
I can do,” stated Tremellen.
Also competing in Pro Am was Root River Racing’s
Haedyn Mickelson who took home a solid fifth place
finish. “I came out of the start around fifth
or sixth. We did a lot of battling back and fourth.
I did not want to do anything too major here since
it doesn’t count for points, so I just stayed
back and tried to not harm myself. I think it
was awesome being able to ride here at Daytona.
Seeing the stadium where the big Nascar racers
compete is so cool,” explained Mickelson.
Alex Gillette also stepped up to the A class
this year and raced both 450 A and Production
A at Daytona Supercross. Gillette took home a
fifth place in 450 A and ninth in Production A.
“This is my first year running the A class. It
was a really good experience. I think I will be
doing very well with the motocross. I just tried
to ride the best I could. I felt pretty good coming
into it, I have been training all winter. The
new Hoosier Tires are probably the best tires
I have ever rode,” said Gillette.
Root River Racing’s Logan Tremellen competed
in Production C. Tremellen made his appearance
at the races this year after overcoming some major
health challenges last year. “I had to overcome
a lot physically and mentally. I was 94 pounds
when I got out of the hospital. I am now heavier,
faster, and stronger than ever before. With how
much support Root River gave me when I was not
even out of the hospital yet, I knew there was
nothing else I wanted to do. I just decided that
I was going to leave public school and do private
school so I could go down to Texas with Dylan.
I have been training pretty hard for the last
three months and it got me here today,” explained
Tremellen.
In the Production C, Tremellen had a great race
going until a mistake on the final lap cost him
the finish he was looking for. “I had a pretty
good battle with the top three guys for most of
the race. I was leading a couple laps. The last
lap, I was two corners from the finish line but
I went off the track, hit a hay bale, and flipped
over. I felt great out there and did not get tired
so hopefully I can do better in Texas,” stated
Tremellen.
In a month the Root River Racing team will be
heading to Kemp, TX to compete at the second round
of the series at Underground MX on April 9-10
where they will be aiming for more podium finishes
and class wins.
