Maxxis' Thomas Brown Takes
Third at Daytona ATV SX
Thomas Brown Daytona ATV Supercross Race Report
Sanger, TX (3/10/2016) - Root River Racing/Maxxis rider Thomas Brown came into the Daytona ATV Supercross with one goal: don’t screw up. He exceeded that goal in spades by finishing third in the demanding AMA ATV Motocross National Championship race at Daytona International Speedway.

Brown is to his core a competitor. In fact, Brown, while standing in Daytona’s legendary Victory Lane, was tough on himself for not doing better.
“My plan coming in was to go out and not make any mistakes,” explained Brown. “I wanted to ride a safe, good race and then head to Texas. I rode on a lot of clay this winter, so I wasn’t quite as prepared for the sand track at Daytona. I came across the finish line and I was disappointed in myself because Jeffrey (Rastrelli) caught and passed me twice. I reeled him in at the end, but I couldn’t push the pass. I’m ready to win some races this year.”

Brown was pleased with the progress he’s already made going into the season. Brown only had to make one minor change on his Yamaha all weekend.
“Looking back, it was really solid weekend,” said Brown. “I qualified fifth, finished second in my heat, and came out on the podium. I’m super happy with the bike. I made one, one-click change on the front shocks all weekend. I think our program is really on point.”
Brown has made some significant changes this season to his program. Along with Root River Racing and Maxxis Tires, Brown has support from several other key suppliers in the ATV industry this year.

“Maxxis and Root River really stepped up for me this year,” said Brown. “We made some big changes on the component side. We’re using JB Racing for my suspension pieces. DASA and Pro Motorsports are working together on the motors, and I have more power than I’ve ever had. Now it’s up to me to go out and win races.”
Race day is only one part of the puzzle for a successful program. Preparation before, and at the race, includes making sure the quad, AND its rider, are in perfect condition.
“Mechanic Brian Johnson is helping me every weekend, while I prep the bike between rounds,” said Brown. “I’ve got Keith Griffin helping me train. He builds me workouts and he helps cater workouts to my needs. I’m trying to keep my body in the best shape it can be.”
The AMA ATV Motocross National Championship next heads to Underground MX in Texas. Brown says he’ll be ready. “I’m looking forward to Texas,” said Brown. “I’ve never done really well there. I think we went 4-2 in motos for fourth last year, and the racing was really tight. Daytona was a good benchmark, though, in how I think we can do.”
The next round of racing will be held on April
8-10th, and Thomas Brown will be going for the
Homestate win at Underground MX.
