Salem, WI –
During the winter months, training can
sometimes be impossible for racers who live in the
northern states, which has been very apparent in
the last couple of weeks as several feet of snow
have fallen and temperatures in the mid west and
east coast plummeted to the negative digits.
While most pro racers have the option of heading
south to warmer climates, some choose to stay
and not only weather the storm, but also take
advantage of the snow and cold by getting in some
cross training.
Digger Doug Gust is one of those racers who love
the cold, snowy winters he gets in his home state
of Wisconsin. “It gives me the opportunity
to build a snow track and get out there and ride
my Ski-Doo,” stated Gust, who is an avid
snow mobile rider.
“One of the new sleds for 2010 only 448
pounds and the power these machines put out is
amazing! They have so much more power than an
ATV and the technology they put into them; they
are really a blast to ride,” said Gust.

During the winter, Gust’s amazing ATV compound
is transformed into a winter wonderland, complete
with a snocross track, where he enjoys getting
together with fellow ATV and sled racers such
as Nick DeNoble, Warnert Racing’s Justin
Broberg and factory Polaris racers, Mike Bauer,
and former National Snocross champ, Ross Martin,
who were all recently at Doug’s place for
a little practice and fun. “We have a really
great time out here. We usually get about 15 guys
together and we ride and race and just have lots
of fun,” said Gust, whose track features
lots of turns and jumps, including a 100 foot
jump that is more than impressive to watch a 500+
pound machine launch over.
