ATVA Announce GNC MX Changes for 2006
Larger Pro Purse & New Classes
Pickerington, OH (11/4/05) –
The 2006 ATVA Grand National Championship Motocross
Series promises to be bigger and better than ever with
bigger payouts, new classes and more racing.
The class that everyone dreams of racing is the Pro class, and this
prestigious class will now offer a $10,000 purse. Like last season, Pros will be
strictly held to a 102-decibel sound limit for their machines. But, unlike last
season, the top five pros in the current points standings will get the first
five gate picks. Like before, the top 10 Pro riders in the current standings
automatically qualify for the first moto.
Meanwhile, some of the Pro and Pro-Am riders have said they want to race both
classes. So, beginning in 2006, Pro-Am Production will race both motos on
Saturday and Pro Unlimited will race both motos on Sunday. This should make for
even more exciting racing.
For youth racers, new classes means more racing opportunities for 2006. Last
season, youth could race in 70 Modified or the 70 Production class. In 2006, the
70 Production class is an auto-clutch or automatic-transmissions-only class—no
manual clutches. Meanwhile, the 70 Modified class is now 70 Shifter, a class
that features modified and production shifter 70cc ATVs.
The extremely popular 50 Limited class has been divided into two classes for
2006: 50 Stock Limited is the same as last years, but the age range is now 4-6;
and 50 Stock Limited ATVs must come stock with a maximum 41-inch width, maximum
4-inch wheelbase, and maximum four inches of suspension travel.
A new class has been created, 50 Production Auto, for riders 6 to 8. This
class has been created for 2006 to accommodate soon-to-be-released race-ready
Production ATVs. The new class also meets the needs of riders and parents who
wanted to make changes to their 50cc ATVs to increase performance and handling.
Like all other Production classes, the 50 Production Auto class will allow the
changing of A-arms, swing arms, axles, the pipe, carb and suspension.
For the women racers, the Women A and B/C classes have new names. Now they
are the Women and Women Sport classes. The change will allow women to ride other
classes without affecting their eligibility. The Women’s class is now limited to
four-stroke production ATVs, while Women’s Sport remains unchanged as an Open
class.
Another change involves the creation of a new class for 2006 called Stock for
riders with stock ATVs. The idea behind this class is to introduce new riders to
the excitement of the GNC-MX series. All ATVs must have nerf bars and a tether
kill switch. The only changes allowed are tires and handlebars.
Meanwhile, Pro-Am and Amateur racers will count 10 of 14 races, while Youth
riders will count nine of 14 races. In other words,
Pro-Am and Amateur racers will have four throw
outs, while Youth racers will have five throw
outs.
