New Berlin, NY (9/24/2014)
-With over 2,500 acres of property, Car-Mate Mountain Ridge offers a track with all types of terrain including: rocks, hill climbs, mud and, oh yea, more rocks! Throughout the track racers will need to be ready for whatever this track throws their way. With a constant cool breeze and temperatures in the high 70’s, the 4x4 Pro riders are closing in on their first ever Pro championship. From the beginning in Bunnell, FL through today, these riders have never let up and continue to give GNCC fans a great show. With three rounds to go and riders who consistently change up the finishing line up, it still cannot be said with any certainty who will hold the crown.
Like every race before, the 4x4 Pro riders wait for the drop of the green flag. Close to home, Rick Cecco was prepared to give his family and fans quite the show. Off the line, he didn’t disappoint and managed to grab the fourth position into the woods. Unfortunately, shortly after entering the woods, Cecco began losing coolant. Fearing a cracked radiator from roost, he made the decision to take it easy in an effort to complete lap one for points.

Rick Cecco made his way through the dust to finish fifth despite two pitstops
|
Once into the pits, Cecco realized a hose had come off his coolant bottle and the damage wasn’t as serious as he had initially thought. From there, Cecco worked to make up ground. By lap two, Cecco’s early pit stop had cost two positions, putting him in seventh.
With two laps to go and several minutes off the lead it was time to take risk in passing thru the pack in an extremely dusty track which unfortunately found Cecco in a bottomless mudhole on lap 2, back in the pits on lap 3 for clean gloves and finally getting tangled up with another racer in a dusty corner with zero visibility on the final lap.

Rick Cecco sits fifth in the GNCC Racing Pro 4x4 Class with 2 rounds remaining

Even with 2 pit stops, getting stuck and final lap tangle Cecco’s determination to keep moving forward helped him secure a fifth place position – less than 5 minutes off the leader. Though certainly not ideal, Cecco remained positive and said, “We still have two rounds to go and I plan to use both to my advantage!” It ain’t over til it’s over.
