/ Motoworks' Dillon Zimmerman placed
fifth at Racetown 395 |
Vista, CA (5/17/2012) –
Can-Am/Motoworks’ Dillon Zimmerman claimed
a top five finish at round number five of the
2012 WORCS series and Josh Frederick finished
in the top ten to still maintain the number
two spot in the points chase after a brutal
round of racing at Racetown 395 in Adelanto,
CA.
Temperatures reached the century mark by
the time the Pro class began to line up for
Sunday’s main event. Due to the high
heat, track officials doused as many parts
of the track with water as they could, but
some of the outlying areas were unreachable
and remained very dusty. The mixed conditions
were rough for racers and the heat caused
fatigue to set in early, but the Can-Am/Motoworks
team persevered.
Dillon Zimmerman was just outside of the
top five on the start and knew that he needed
to race smart and keep a fast pace. After
a couple of laps, Zimmerman was challenging
for the number five spot and after battling
for a couple of laps, he was able to get by.
“I was battling the dust for a good
part of the race. There wasn’t a lot
of options to pass, it was either too dusty
to see or it was too wet. I just knew that
I couldn’t hang back and keep eating
dust and mud anymore so I just went for it,”
explained Zimmerman.
“The heat was really bad and I was
getting pretty tired out there, but I just
kept going and did the best I could. I was
lucky that the Can-Am is such a great machine
and held up to the conditions and that Motoworks
does such a good job so I could finish well,”
said Zimmerman.
Josh Frederick was inside the top five on
the start and began to chase down the competition
right away. Frederick moved into the number
three spot after just one lap and then took
over second place at the mid-way point of
the race. Frederick was closing in on the
leader, but in lap eight, just a half mile
from the pits, Frederick ran out of gas and
had to run back to the pits for more fuel.

“It was so hot out there that the gas
just boiled out and evaporated a lot quicker
than we had planned for. I am a little disappointed
because I was feeling really good out there
and I was closing in on the lead, but now
I really have a lot of motivation for the
next round,” said Frederick, who despite
the mishap, was still able to finish in ninth
place and hold onto second in series points.
Round number six of the 2012 WORCS series
will head to On the Edge Raceway in Enterprise,
UT on June 15th – 17th, where Josh Frederick
will be on a mission to win.
