MXi & The
ATV Super Tour
Televised ATV racing in 2006
To the
ATV Racing Community: |
November 4, 2005 |
Since our races earlier this year at the ESPN Great
Outdoor Games there have been many questions about MXi’s
plans going forward, and specifically about a televised
National Race Series. In order to answer as many questions
as we can, as well as begin the process of open communication,
here is our update:
Under the brand of The ATV Sport Tour (AST), we will
be running a televised 8-race, series in 2006. The events
will be split between a Spring series (which will act
as a qualifying series for the ’06 Great Outdoor
Games) airing on ESPN, and a Fall series, leading to
the awarding of the AST National Championship at the
end of ’06, which will air on another network
(details to be announced shortly).
The televised competition events will be both MX style
racing and the Terracross™ utility discipline
that we introduced at this year’s Great Outdoor
Games. There will be both Pro and Amateur classes at
each stop. Amateur classes will receive highlight coverage
in the television shows, as well.
We are now in the process of securing dates and venues
for the season. This process has been on hold until
we could get a schedule of the 2006 MX Nationals from
the ATVA, which we received this week. It is our intention
to provide a complimentary series in dates and locations
to the ATVA Nationals, and not compete with the ATVA
series. The ESPN Great Outdoor Games will be making
an announcement soon as to the dates and location of
their 2006 event, and it is anticipated that this event
will take place in May, 2006, but nothing official has
been announced or released.
In addition, it is our firm intention to be “sanctioned”
or “endorsed” by the AMA/ATVA, as our efforts
have been in the past at the X Games with Supermoto
and the ATV events at the Great Outdoor Games. We are
believers in the AMA/ATVA and what it means to our sport.
Discussions in the regard are underway.
We are firm believers in listening to you, our customers,
and want to make this a fun and challenging series for
all levels of racing. We will be announcing the dates,
locations, purses and formats as soon as the details
are complete, but we can unequivocally state that we
have the airtime from ESPN and are committed and confirm
that the AST will roll out in 2006 – and hopefully
benefit everyone in the ATV community.
As always, questions and comments are more than welcome
at any time.
Sincerely,
Tes Sewell
