Menasha, WI (10/2/2014)
- ZMS / Can-am / Turnkey UTV backed driver Zac Zakowski had a dominating performance this past weekend in what would be the first ever double header round in the Iowa ATV Hare Scramble Series (IATVHSS.) Who on earth would run two UTV cross country races in one day you may ask, well with round five being rained out, some of the best teams checked every nut and bolt twice to prepare for the epic day in Beaconsfield, Iowa.

With a championship on the line after a 13th place finish at round one, the number 990 Straightline Performance powered Can-am Maverick 1000 X-xc needed to make up some points in order to take the 2014 championship. Zac and co-pilot Eric VonSpreckon were up to the task, and after the first flag dropped it was clear they were there for one reason, to stop messing around and get some wins.
Zakowski rocked off the line in race number one, taking the holeshot, and never looked back until crossing the line with the big win. While celebration was in the air, there was little time to dwell on it with race number two coming up in a few hours and tons of work still needed to prep the machine for another round of abuse. After hours of sweat and nerves, the field was lined up and ready for race number two, which was running in the opposite direction on the four-mile course. When the flag dropped it was déjà vu for the team and fans watching, with the bright green machine taking the holeshot once again and holding on to take home another win.
“These wins were huge for us. We had a rocky start to the year with this all new Can-am Maverick X-xc but I think this makes a huge statement for us as a team and Can-am for building a car that could handle this weekend’s abuse. We put everything we had into this and it finally paid off, I can’t thank everyone enough”, stated Zakowski.
The double wins moved Zakowski from fourth in the standings to leading by 13 points heading into the final round in a few weeks. Along with the UTV success, Zac finally re-mounted on his Can-am Renegade ATV after nearly two years of knee problems and surgeries. With little seat time and not knowing how his body would hold up, Zac was able to put in an awesome run, taking a win in a stacked field of riders. You can’t ask for a better weekend then that!
