Race Report

Wienen went 2-2 in the motos and finished second
overall on his Wienen Motorsports/SSI Decals/Maxxis
Tires Yamaha. It was a “what-could-have-been-race”
for the defending champion as mistakes added up
to second in the final order.

“Today was just about mistakes,” said Wienen.
“I was very fortunate I kept my Yamaha on track.
This was one of my bad days and I guess it wasn’t
too bad. I just made one big mistake. In the first
moto, I got stuck behind Thomas and Joel really
just got away from me. In the second moto, I had
a great gate, I made a pass on Joel and I started
pulling away. I made a big mistake and almost
crashed. I don’t know if a rock got stuck into
my wheel because I almost spun around. That’s
when Joel got back behind me. I tried to put in
another charge, but I realized that if I kept
pushing something bad was going to happen.”
Brown, astride his Root River Racing's Yamaha,
scored a 4-3 on the weekend. He was proud to bring
Root River a podium on its home turf, after battling
with Rastrelli in both motos.

“Jeffrey and I battled both motos,” said Brown.
“He was on me on the last lap and was right on
me. It’s great to win here in Minnesota. We’ve
been struggling the last four races. I haven’t
been riding like I should. The Root River Racing
team never gave up on me, even when I thought
about giving up on myself. The whole team has
really pulled together.”
Rastrelli, riding the JB Racing/PEP Shocks finished
3-4. Though he finished fourth overall, the training
he’s put in is starting to pay off with two hard-fought
finishes on the fast and rough track.

“I really trained hard these last two weeks and
I think it showed with the endurance I had,” said
Rastrelli. “I just couldn’t make the pass on Thomas.
I tried everything that last moto. I rode a pretty
flawless race, but there was just one fast line
and I couldn’t get past him.”
Nick Gennusa rode a 7-5 for an overall fifth
on the AGX/Walsh/Maxxis Honda. Though fifth was
not his preferred finishing position, he is looking
forward to the next race, at his home track Unadilla.

“At least we’re going to my favorite track next:
Unadilla,” said Gennusa. “It’s my home track and
that’s some motivation. We have some hard work
to do for the next two weeks. I’m struggling a
little bit mid-season, but I’m giving it everything
I can. The holeshot was tricky and I struggled
with gate picks. It seemed like the track only
had limited passing opportunities. I’m not too
thrilled, but I’ll be ready for Unadilla.”
