Reno, NV (8/18/2014) -The 2014
Best in the Desert Vegas to Reno proved to be one
of the most challenging race in many years with
rain ruts and plenty of rocks, which played havoc
on the SXS / UTV racers with limited visibility
in the dust. After 535 miles of racing, Coastal
/ Holz Racing’s 1934 Scott Kiger and Mark Holz came
away with the win in their Polaris RZR XP. Jagged
X Racing’s Brandon Schueler was the first SxS across
the finish line in Reno, but finished in second
place with adjusted time, and Can-Am’s Jason and
Derek Murray rounded out the top three 1900 Class
finishers.
The BITD Vegas to Reno race started just before
sunrise at 5:45 with the motorcycles leaving the
line first, and by the time the SxS Racers hit
the track, it was 6:30 and the sun was just about
to peak out behind the hills as the racers had
to race directly into the rising sun at the start
of the race, and Can-Am’s Lacrecia Beurrie was
the first SxS off the line, but her race ended
early with a mechanical issue after running strong
for the first 300 miles of the race.

Can-Am’s
#1924 Lacrecia Beurrie was the first off
the starting line for the BITD Vegas to
Reno at about 6:30AM just outside the town
of Beatty, Nevada |
Walker Evan Racing’s 1934 Scott Kiger started
the race, and he was the fifteenth SxS to leave
the starting line middle of the pack, so he had
his fair share of dust to eat as he charged his
way through the pack, and despite having a few
flat tires, Kiger had a near flawless race.
|
Coastal
/ Holz Racing's claimed the SxS / UTV overall
win by less than a minute after racing 535
miles through the Nevada desert with a time
of 11:17:55 |
Kiger Swapped out the driver duties with Mark
Holz near the half way point of the race, and
Holz finished out the race as they closed the
gap on the #1919 Jagged X Racing’s Brandon Schueler
holding the physical lead. Holz finished the race
over a minute behind Schueler, but after adjusted
time on starting order, Holz and Kiger claimed
the win with less than a minute to spare after
535 miles of racing, and they finished an impressive
20th overall among ATV, Motorcycle, and SxS racers.
Jagged X Racing’s #1919 Brandon Schueler charged
his way into the early lead after leaving the
line tenth, and by the 250 mile mark he was just
over 8 minutes ahead of Can-Am’s Marc Burnett
running in the second spot at the time.

Jagged X Racing's #1919 Brandon
Schueler finished in the second spot |
At the 500 mile mark, Schueler had a near five
minute lead over Kiger/Holz, but he wasn’t able
to hold them off in the final stretch and finished
in the second spot by such a slim margin.
The 2013 BITD Vegas to Reno winners, ITP / Can-Am’s
Jason and Derek Murray, rounded out the top three
in their modified Can-Am Maverick MAX, and finished
over 25 minutes behind Schueler with a time of
11:44:21. Amazingly, they finished with a faster
time than 2013 when they won even though the track
was rougher this year, which goes to show how
much faster machines are getting each year.

ITP
/ Can-Am's Jason & Derek Murray rounded
out the Best in the Desert UTV Podium with
a third place finish in the Can-Am Maverick
MAX |
