Union SC (4/13/2014) – The fourth round of the Amsoil GNCC Racing series took place in Union, South Carolina for the Big Buck GNCC, and Maxxis’ Chris Borich claimed his 70th win at Big Buck with his third win of the year. Yamaha’s Walker Fowler took second place and Chris Bithell rounded out the podium aboard his #4 Precision, Maxxis, Suzuki.
What a drastic change in track conditions from round three, which left everyone soaked to the bone and covered in mud after a long day’s worth of racing. The Big Buck GNCC greeted racers to pleasantly dry conditions paired with warm temps and sunny skies.

Regardless of the conditions, the 5x GNCC Pro Champion Chris Borich, more often than not finds a way to win. Borich started off the Big Buck GNCC by grabbing his second holeshot of the season, but he dropped back to second before the end of the first lap. The Suzuki mounted racer eventually moved in behind Walker Fowler out front, but on the last lap, Borich clipped a tree causing him to cartwheel his Suzuki. After getting going again, Borich closed the gap and eventually passed Fowler who was slowed down by lapped traffic.

“This track is pretty sweet to me. It fits my style of riding, it’s fast and has a good flow to it. It got really rough out there and pretty hot as well. Walker and I were running good and kind of running our own race. The last lap, I ended up clipping a tree and cartwheeling. He gapped me a good thirty seconds, but I caught back up after he got into some lapped riders,” said Borich after his 70th win of his career.
Walker Fowler took second today despite having issues with his machine and lapped riders slowing his lead and costing him the win. After running in first place during the first three laps of the day, Fowler began opening up the gap between him and Borich. Bad luck would strike after getting hung up in traffic allowing Borich to make the pass. Although he didn’t pull off the win, his finish was much better than fifteenth place in the previous round.

“I led most of the race, but at the beginning I just didn’t feel comfortable. We have some bike problems that need to be taken care of. Chris made a mistake and I tried to take advantage of it by putting some distance between us so he couldn’t see me. Lapped riders just aren’t helping me this year. Second place is a lot better than fifteenth so I will take that,” said Fowler after his second place finish.
Chris Bithell rounded out the podium taking third. During the start, Bithell started his quad before the green flag dropped after hearing an air horn in the crowd, which caused him to jump the gun. After realizing his mistake, he shut the machine back off, but at the end of the first lap, he was issued a thirty second penalty for the early jump. Afterwards, Bithell worked his way up to third. Despite the issues early on, he was able to still podium after riding hard the whole race.
