"Unadilla" GNCC Amateur
Race Report
New Berlin, NY (09/25/05)
– The Unadilla Sports Complex has hosted the
Outdoor National Motocross series for years, but this
past weekend Round eleven of the GNCC Series made
history as being the first ever National off-road
race held at the famous Unadilla Sports Complex, and
the amateur ATV racers would be the first riders ever
to tackle the two motocross tracks and the freshly
cut course through the woods and marsh lands along
the Unadilla River. For this historical event, over
400 ATV riders signed up to compete and be apart of
history.

Traci Cecco on her way to her 5th win of the
season with Jarrod McClure closing the gap |
The morning racing action was intense as the battle was
on between Stephanie Parton and Traci Cecco for the win
as the Women’s Championship points remains tight
after Parton earned her first Overall win this season
Yadkinville, but this weekend would belong to Cecco as
she was able to hold off the hard charge of Parton to
claim the women’s class win by just a few feet as
they took the checkered flag back to back with Alba Actions,
Traci Cecco earning the final spot on the podium with
her third overall finish and tied Parton with five wins
each. “This win was really important to me because
the women’s championship will be decided by wins,”
said Cecco “It was awesome to win the first race
at Unadilla, which will go in the record books.”
Once again the four stroke stock class riders dominated
the majority of the race with Chris Neal jumping out
to the early lead with Jarrod McClure and Harlen Foley
in pursuit, but an early mistake by both McClure and
Foley early in the race, would allow Neal to pull
a slight lead. Neal’s overall lead would come
to an end when he collided with a banshee and locked
wheels, which allowed both McClure and Foley to pass
him before he was able to break free his Honda.

Jarrod
McClure wins his First Overall and becomes part
of history claiming the first National Unadilla
Off-road Win |
Jarrod McClure (Bowers Motorcycle Supply) easily went
on to claim his first overall win of the season and go
down in history as the first ever GNCC overall winner
at Unadilla. Just over a minute behind McClure was Harlen
Foley in second overall aboard his LTZ400 Suzuki. “It
is an awesome feeling to be back on the podium,”
said Foley “I look forward to these tight and rough
races because it is tough to keep up with the 450cc machines
on the wide open tracks.”
Local New York resident, Ken Vickerd, earned his second
win of the season in the Super Senior Class over Class
Champion Johnny Gallagher. In the Utility Modified Class,
Jim Stack rode his Honda Recon like a man possessed to
earn his first win of the season and finished an impressive
19th overall on an extremely tight and dry track with
Class Champion, Scott Kilby, finishing in second place
just over three minutes back. In the Utility Unlimited
Class, Neil Belcher would come from behind to aboard his
hybrid Polaris to take the win, and Ken Robey moves closer
to winning the Utility Stock Championship with his fourth
consecutive win as Mike Penland points lead dwindles after
finishing in seventh with mechanical issues.

Glenn
Pritchard won the 35+ C Class in his GNCC debut
at Yadkinville and his winning streak continued
at Unadilla |
The C Class riders, James Barron, Kevin Yoho, and
Glen Pritchard dominated their respective classes
and finished back to back overall with Pritchard just
missing the top 10 overall.
Afternoon Race
Adam McGill heading into Unadilla hoping to make his Pro
debut after wrapping up the points in the Pro Am Class,
but according to the rules he needed to compete in eleven
events, so the move to the front row would be delayed
until round twelve of the GNCC Series at Powerline Park.

Scott Barron gives a thumbs up on his way to
Pro Am Class Win and 6th Overall finish, which
was just shy of his season best 4th Overall
finish at Loretta Lynn's Dude Ranch |
Scott Barron would put his Steel City Yamaha out front
early with the Holeshot and lead the race from start
to finish with an impressive sixth overall finish. “I
never was once off the ATV, and when the track got whooped
out my Yamaha ate it up, and I look forward to racing
here again” said Barron. Just over twenty seconds
back was Joshua Ribley in second place with his best
finish of the season. Adam McGill pressured Ribley early
before being forced to drop out of the race after a
stick punctured his radiator and his Holz Racing 450R
began to overheat, which allowed Chris Bithell to charge
his way up from fifteenth to finish third and eleventh
overall. GNCC veteran, Rob Hertz proved he still has
the speed to run up front finishing fourth and twelvth
overall ahead of Andy Klingworth.
Brandon Sommers wrapped up the Four Stroke B Class
Championship with Tyler Lenig securing the runner
up spot, so the pair made the move to Four Stroke
A this weekend with great success with Lenig finishing
in second place behind Florida Resident, Taylor Kiser
and Sommers in third place. In the Open A Class, Craig
Reed extended his points lead over Ryan Lane but winning
his fourth race of the season and cresting the top
twenty overall once again.
Since Honda stopped paying contingency for the Junior
Class, Bryan Davis made the switch to the Vet Class
this weekend, which paid off big as he earned his
first win of the season by edging out Jeff Breast
at the checkered flag for the win with 35+ C Class
Champion, Thomas Wright, finishing third in his first
attempt at racing in the Afternoon. Kevan Logston
would claim his second win of the season in the Junior
Class and Dave Hogg take the win over John Cunningham
Jr for the Senior Class win.
