ATV Race Report

Richardson said his teammates raised his competitive
spirit during the race. He set out to earn the
fastest laps and in the end it was mission accomplished.

Richardson opted to take the GBC Challenge
section each lap |
“Walker was before me, so I got to see his lap
times before I went out and that was motivation
enough,” said Richardson. “His last time at night,
he beat me by four seconds, so I dedicated one
lap to try to beat him. We ended up getting him
by a few seconds and I was pumped about that.
I think I ride better at night because you don’t
see half of the stuff. I did the Challenge every
lap I ran but two. I just went for it and it turned
out OK. You just had to keep your eyes open and
overall it was a fun challenge.”

ATV race win |
Local racers Prindle and Campbell teamed up with
Hunter Van Patton and carried Iowa pride to second
in AA Class, seven laps behind the winners. The
Hawkeye natives began preparing just two days
before the race, so they were delighted with their
results. “We just gave it a shot,” said Prindle.
“I run AA in the Iowa Series and the race was
pretty good for us. The bikes held together pretty
well. My bike was the bad one for us this year.
We dodged the Challenge section all race. It’s
an honor to run against people like Walker Fowler.
I didn’t look at my bike until two days before
the race so I can’t complain.”

Campbell actually took a flight over the bars
of his machine on one of the course’s downhills.
His consistency was only matched by the grin on
his face. “The downhills were getting pretty choppy,”
said Campbell. “We’ve been putting down consistent
lap times. We’re just out there having fun and
doing what we do. This race turned out really
nice. We thought it was going to be a mud hole,
but it tacked up really nice.”
The real story came out of the A Class with Team
Fast City and riders Bubba Hicks, Sky Volkamer
nd Kyle Burnham finishing fourth overall and first
in class. In fact, they were the second sport
quad team in the final order behind the winners
and two 4X4 teams. Team Distortion Racing and
Team Two Pups completed the top three in the A
Class.

for the A Class Win |
“We’ve had good luck and we were really close
to winning it last year,” explained Hicks. “We
just put consistent lap times together, watched
what everyone else was doing and got it done.
We finished third two years ago, second last year,
so this was our year to take it. We were pretty
pumped to finish fourth overall. That was a huge
accomplishment. It was pretty cool to place that
high in this event. We’ll be back next year and
we’re talking about AA. It’s a big jump, so it’s
kind of hard to decide what class to shoot for.
