St.MARYS,PA-An 18-year old St.Marys man is facing several charges following three separate pursuits the occured in the early morning hours yesterday(Sunday April, 4).
The St.Marys City Police Department reports that as a result of three different pursuits of an ATV that was being driven recklessly and without headlights throughout the city during the early morning hours of Sunday April 4, the 18-year old has been charged with DUI, three counts of reckless driving and running stop signs, driving on the wrong side of the rode while going around the Diamond and over trafic islands and numerous other traffic violations.
According to police, the first pursuit started at about 4:25 a.m. on Nortrh St. Marys Road and coninued into the downtown area, where the ATV escaped with his passenger.
Later, at 5:11 a.m., the same four-wheeler and passenger returned to the north side of the city. After running a vehicle off the road on North St. Marys Street, it led police on a chase into the downtown area, where the four-wheeler traveled into the lane of an ambulance taking a patient to the hospital. The four-wheeler escaped into the downtown area with driving the entire time with headlights.
At 5:38 a.m., the ATV with his passenger, returned to Lynch Road, agaain traveling without headlights and again led police on a chase into the down town area to South Michael Road, where he turned left onto Wendel Road.
After traveling around Grandview, Birch and Wendel Roads, and through several private lawns, the ATV turned right onto Birch Road, where it slowed and struck the pursuing police car in the driver's side rear passenger door.
The collision caused the ATV to bounce into the drainage ditch. The passenger fled on foot to a private residence as the operator was apprehended at the scene.
The city K-9 unit wasused to track the passenger to the residence. The passenger is known to police at this time.
The Honda ATV was inpounded and taken as evidence.
The charges will be filed with District Justice Donald A. Wilhelm pending further court action.
An investigation into this incident continues.
