I am installing a JE 416 kit and the directions that came with the rings say that they have to be filed to create the correct gap. Can someone please help me with this. Do you really have to file these or are they ok as is??

put the rings in the jug and check the gap with a fila guage, it should tell you what the gap setting are in the instruction...you more than likely will have to file them.

do you by chance know what the bore is for a 416 kit?

.80 over.....take it to a machine shop and have them bore and hone it.

I just had it bored out today. I am ready to install the piston and the directions say to gap it to Bore x .0045 but i don't know what the bore diameter is. How would I figure this?

dont forget to take your piston with you.....i just had mine done but i have the ross piston...the bore size was 3.4223 inches and my instructions said to gap the rings .004 per inch in the top ring and .0005 per inch on the bottom ring.

so you don't have to multiply that by the bore size?

it should be 3.4 so 3.4 x .0045 would be .0153

go .008-.012 on the top .014-.018 on the second and you shouldn't need to touch the oil rings
