How wide is a 40 inch axle? Is that standard, +2, or + 4? Do OEM rear hubs work well on aftermarket axles?

stock axle is 36 out to out. a 2+2 is 40 overall but with the adjustable collars to change the hub depth. If it's got no collars, then it's a solid +4. Stock hubs slide right on.

they arent adjustable hubs, the axel is adjustable..there are collars that slide on and off that you either put on the inside of the hub to widen the axel or the outside of the hub to narrow it.

This might be dumb question but i dont wanna buy an axle thinkin one way, and i get somethin i dont want.

If it says +2 , is that two inches wider on both sides, for a total of four inches wider overall? or is +2 just two inches wider overall from end to end.

I believe a +2 rear axle is 2 inches wider over all (1 inch on each side).
