Ok my 02 400ex leaks oil around the shaft on the front sprocket. My question is do I need to crack the case open to replace the bearing and oil seal?

you will only need the output shaft seal and this can be changed by taking the sprocket off and use a couple of pics to pull the seal.

This is the first time I have ever heard this. Mine has done this for a long time and everyone I have talked to said it had to be split to replace it. So I have just been living with it. I will have to try replacing it.

or you can run a small self tapping drywall screw into it, and pull it right out
