HIGHLAND PARK, Mich. - A 37-year-old father irate over hearing his 15-year-old son had sexual contact with a 3-year-old girl made the teen strip at gunpoint, marched him to a vacant lot and shot him to death despite pleas from the boy and his mother, a relative said.

Michigan authorities filed a first-degree murder charge Wednesday against Jamar Pinkney Sr. in the shooting death Monday of Jamar Pinkney Jr. in the Detroit enclave of Highland Park.

Defense attorney Corbett O'Meara said prosecutors should consider evidence of the father's state of mind over the sex abuse report.

"If something were to happen that would cause a reasonable person to lose control of himself, that is something the prosecution would have to take into account," O'Meara said outside Highland Park District Court.

Tensions were high in the courtroom Wednesday as the handcuffed suspect was led into the room for the arraignment, which lasted less than a minute.

"No, No, No," one female relative cried before a police officer escorted her out.

Judge Brigette Officer entered a not guilty plea for Pinkney, who's also charged with assault, and ordered him jailed without bond until a preliminary examination Dec. 1.

"This is something that's hard to deal with for all the parties concerned, including the police," police Chief Ted Caldwell said afterward. "Highland Park is a small city. These are people who have been members of the community for years."

Caldwell said the sexual misconduct allegation that led to the confrontation wasn't part of the police investigation.

The shooting happened Monday night in a vacant lot in the once-prosperous city of 16,000, where decay, abandonment, fires and demolition have eaten away at many of the sprawling homes. Highland Park recently exited years of state financial oversight.

Visitors built an impromptu memorial at the shooting site. Two votive candles sat amid 10 stuffed animals, including two white teddy bears with red hearts embroidered with, "I love you."

The boy's mother, Lazette Cherry, told the Detroit Free Press that her son told her he had improper sexual contact with the girl.

"I called and told his father. This isn't something you sweep under the rug," she said.

Cherry said the elder Pinkney arrived at the home with a gun, ordered his son to strip and marched him outside despite her protests.

"He got on his knees and begged, `No, Daddy, No,' and he pulled the trigger," Cherry said.

Cherry did not immediately respond to a message Wednesday from The Associated Press seeking comment.

Thats what I was thinking, but the killing of the son was wrong. As much bravado as we would like to project, killing someone in cold blood isnt the way to go

And now I hear about a 15 year old girl who strangled, stabbed and killed a 9 year old just because she wanted to see what it felt like. At some point, society has to realize what or how these kids are being raised is either wrong or being influenced in a lot of wrong ways

oh hands down the father is sicker then the boy. i think what the son did was un thinkable. discusting. horrible. ect ect ect. but for the father to march his own child across the street and shoot him in front of his mother. i just cant even fathem that.yes i undertsand his rage and his anger. i would be too. but to kill your own child cause of a sickness he has. (and yes its a sickness. you have to be mentaly ill in order to touch a child like that) come on people. i thought humans were a lil better then that.thats not a true father. thats just some scum bag who got his wife pregnant. not a true father:grr:

I'm kinda torn on this one too. If it was my daughter, I would be mad that somebody beat me to the punch. I would want the SOB to beg for his life too. But who leaves their 3 year old daughter alone with a 15 yo boy? Too many unanswered questions. I hate to think what my father would do to me (even though I'm 31). I'd prolly wish I was dead.

My guess is that an abusive father and a horrible childhood was probably a major contributor to the 15yo's molestation of the 3yo. I think that, in the end, the father will turn out to be driving force behind all of this. If that's the case, maybe he'll do us all a favor and give himself the same treatment that he gave to his son.

I completely think both parties are completely jacked up. And agree that there were proboly some serious contributing factors to the boys decision to do what he did but I am with zeb, I think I'd rather be dead then what would have came from the little girls father or my own! It was horrible what that father did and very disturbing. And pappy, I am curious too when people will realize that the world we live in along with the horrible parenting seems to breed more and more sick individuals everyday but in the end it will only get worse unless we make a serious effort!

It was merely an accusation and had not been proven to be true yet. So he decided to be judge jury and executioner without all the facts.
Why didn’t the mother throw herself in front of the boy? Where is her love?

Sadly this the world we have always lived in. We just here about it more now days.

I would step in front of a gun to protect my child, no question, at any time or any place. There people that put there life on the line for people they don't even know every day.
Yes I would do it in a heart beat to save my child.

I dont even know if I want to hear the whole sorted story when it comes out. I fear for my kids and their kids. Maybe it is true that this stuff has always happened, but the stark fact is, we are becoming accustomed to it. It seems each vicious crime is that much worse then the last one. I dont think the folks in Hollywood could dream up these nightmares:(

I was thinking the same thing but I had to go and didn't have time to finish typing my thought.

I agree, the more you see of that kind of thing the more desensitized we become to it. Scary stuff.

Personally, I think the current world is more to blame than anything.

Think back 50 years ago. Kid's didn't shoot up school, or rape toddlers. They respected thier parents, and adults enough to be polite, courteous, etc. and knew thier boundaries.

Now, with DCF, and child services, parents won't hardly spank thier children for fear of going to jail. And kids are allowed to watch damn near anything on TV.

The media is raising gen X, not adults. Kids have no respect, no real grasp of right and wrong, and no fear of consequences.

Honestly, I think the majority of kids today need to have thier arses tore up. Let them know that they are the child, not the adult. They aren't the top of the food chain.

I know my dad would never have let me get away with screaming and throwing fits, talking back, cursing, etc. toward adult/ authority figures.

As for the mother not saving her child, I think there is more to this story than in the article. There had to be a reason she didnt try to save him. Hell, im 17 and I would take a bullet for anyone in my family, and some of my friends even.

Horrendous acts of violence occur everyday against children in this country!

This is a very sad story and I am sure both victims would have recovered with a little help .

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE SH!!!TTTTING ME!!!

I really don't think so! I don't care how freaked up ya are, murdering you own flesh and blood because of something like this (and yes, it is bad...insert other words for editing of course). Examine his head, find nothing (NO BRAINS) and fry the bazturd! I am one of those who suffer from all kinds of different stress, depression, PTSD... I just learned from dong my own research, that I was, at one time, on the verge of being a full blown "Paranoid Schizophrenic". Thanks to me taking just one quick second to realize it, I was able to get help. And believe me... I WAS GONE!!! There is no excuse for what this (insert curse) done... NONE!!!
