POSTED: Friday, September 26, 2003 7:10:55 PM
VALLEY VIEW -- The driver of an ATV crashed over a cliff in a secluded area off Canal Road in Valley View Friday afternoon.
Nineteen-year-old Steven Lipinski of Valley View was off-roading with his uncle. He lost control of his ATV and went 125 feet off a cliff before landing in a ravine.
LifeFlight had to maneuver a landing under high-tension wires as rescuers worked to bring Lipinski up out of the ravine.
Lipinski was pierced by a one-inch thick tree branch and broke his thighbone and femur on the way down. When rescuers reached him, he was in good spirits, but drifting in and out of consciousness.
He was strapped to a stretcher and pulled up the side of the cliff by ropes. The terrain made for a difficult rescue.
Lipinski is in intensive care at MetroHealth Medical Center. His injuries are not life threatening
