GBC Motorsports Racing Summer Update

Anaheim, CA (8/5/2015) - As the summer gets into full swing and the race schedule lightens up, GBC Motorsports racers are working harder than ever to compete at the highest levels and prove that GBC tires are the ideal choice for racers looking to win championships. Check out the latest highlights from GBC sponsored athletes competing in race series across the country.

2015 Terracross Championship
The 2015 Terracross Championship kicked off at the San Diego County Fair in Del Mar, California. The June 25-26 racing action packed more than a dozen Polaris RZRs onto a tight and technical motocross style track, making for two days worth of entertaining battles, impressive driving and some hair raising carnage.

Mickey Thomas led GBC to victory in the opening round of Terracross.

Several GBC Motorsports sponsored racers made their way out to the fairgrounds to compete in this unique challenge. Day 1 started off with a heat race victory by GBC racer Mickey Thomas, who then carried that momentum into the final race to take the checkered flag. RJ Anderson also won his heat, but dropped out of the race with a 1st lap crash. Colten Moore turned in the 4th best time, while fellow GBC racer and rOtation Motorsports teammate BC Vaught claimed the 10th spot after completing just 3 laps.

Day 2 of Terracross action would prove to be just as much of a success for GBC racers as the day before. This time RJ Anderson was the fastest through 12 laps by just a few seconds, earning him the Day 2 win. Colten Moore again completed all 12 laps to take 6th place, while Mickey Thomas, BC Vaught and Mike Gardner all dropped out partway through the race.

GBC was also well-represented in the women’s races. Shelby Anderson put in solid 2nd place finishes on both days. Danielle Weatherly put down a 4th place finish on Day 1 and followed it up with a strong 3rd place podium finish on Day 2.

The next Terracross action will take place September 12-13 at Haydays in North Branch, MN, followed by a September 25-26 stop at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. GBC Motorsports is a proud sponsor of the 2015 Terracross Championship. Learn more at www.terracrossracing.com.

Lucas Oil SoCal Off Road Regional
GBC Motorsports racers Kayla Smith and Dustin Nelson both swept the recent Lucas Oil Off Road Regional at Glen Helen Raceway. After qualifying first on her freshly grooved GBC Motorsports tires, Smith avoided an early race pile up and worked her way up to the front. She held on to take the Round 4 win in the Unlimited UTV class. Smith laid down the top qualifying spot again for Round 5, this time starting in the first row. She took the holeshot and led the race wire-to-wire, clinching the weekend sweep and locking down some important points. Smith leads the Unlimited UTV class, while fellow GBC racer Danielle Weatherly is in 2nd in the class after going 6-6 at Glen Helen.

Dustin Nelson has been on a tear recently, and he proved that he’s got what it takes to compete with the best in the Weller Racing SR1 class. Nelson earned his second and third SR1 class victories of the season at Glen Helen. If Saturday’s race was close, Sunday’s race was a blowout as Nelson took the checkers by nearly a 5-second gap. Nelson holds the fourth spot in the SR1 class standings with just a couple rounds of racing left to go.

Brandon Kilgore also represented GBC in the SR1 class and put up a good showing himself. Kilgore finished in 4th place in Saturday’s race and followed it up with a 6th place finish on Sunday. Fellow GBC driver Tommy Scranton took home a pair of top 5 finishes in the Production 1000 class. Scranton improved on his 5th place Saturday performance by finishing on the podium with a 2nd place on Sunday.

The next round of the Lucas Oil SoCal Off Road Regional is slated for Saturday, August 29th at Glen Helen Raceway. Meanwhile, the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series heads down to Mexico for the August 1-2 Baja International Short Course race.

GNCC Racing
The summer break is here, and several GBC Motorsports racers capped off the first half of the season with strong performances at Snowshoe. Scott Day, Forrest Whorton, Nathan Hornacek and Jeff Pickens led the way with round 9 class wins, while Day and Whorton are joined by Shane Pitzer and Todd Moskala at the top of their respective classes. GNCC Racing will resume September 19-20 in Unadilla, NY.

WORCS Racing
WORCS Racing has also been quiet since late May, when GBC Motorsports athletes grabbed a staggering five UTV class wins. RJ Anderson led the way with the SXS Pro victory in Iron Mine, UT, while Mike Gardner topped the SXS 1000 class.

Mike Gardner WORCS Racing

Shelby Anderson won the SXS 900 class, Ronnie Anderson bested the SXS 600 SS class, and Danielle Weatherly dominated the Powder Puff class. Gardner, Weatherly and Shelby Anderson all lead their classes, and WORCS Racing picks up again with Round 7 in Straddeline, WA July 31-August 2.
