Jarrod McClure Big Buck GNCC Race Report

Kaska, PA (4/16/2015) - ATVriders.com/ Jarrod McClure Racing’s (JMR) rider Jarrod McClure secured his first podium finish of the 2015 season at round four of the Grand National Cross Country series this past weekend in Union SC. Jarrod rounded out the XC1 podium finishing third for the day after a hard fought battle with racer Brycen Neal. JMR teammate XC2 Pro Am racer Randy Hamilton raced his way to a fourth place finish in the 24-rider XC2 class.

Round four of the GNCC series always makes its stop in Union South Carolina at the Turner Family’s property. Typically this is one of the first hot and dry races of the season and this year proved to be no different, hosting temperatures in the eighties and dry track conditions for the day. Racers know to expect a fast rough track here with plenty of exposed tree roots and some gnarly hill climbs.

DWT’s McClure had another great start at this race going into the woods in the top eight. Jarrod fell in line with his fellow racers and worked his way through the dust the first lap and checked in fifth on the lap one with about a 12 second gap up to fourth.

“The quad fired awesome with this Dirtworks 24 volt system with the ALIANT Batteries, and my Baldwin motor yanked me to the front of the pack out there on the start. I had a great first lap and was able to work my way into fifth. I knew I had to turn it up to catch that lead group” said McClure.

McClure put the hammer down on lap two, but unfortunately hit a tree, which was enough from keeping him from catching fourth. After a quick pit stop Jarrod regained himself and was able to charge past Chris Bithell on lap three and set his sights on Brycen Neal who was running in third. The end of lap three started the battle for third between McClure and Neal. The battle continued onto the final lap where Jarrod was able to slip by Brycen into the number three position which he would hold onto at the finish, rounding out the podium for the day,

“Today went really well for me, the Elka / Teixeira suspension worked great out there and that says a lot because this track fell apart. I was able to charge hard all day and those last two laps were really fun with Brycen. I had a few lines picked out to pass him but he knew most of them. I was able to get by him around the four-mile marker just hopping across a little gulley to his inside. It was some good clean racing. I am super pumped to get this JMR Honda back on the box where it belongs,” said McClure.

JMR’s XC2 Pro Am racer Randy Hamilton began his day outside the top ten in the 24-rider XC2 class. Randy worked his way through the dust on lap one and moved up into sixth. By the fourth and final lap Randy, like McClure, had himself in a battle for the final position on the podium as he banged wheels with Marty Christofferson.  Randy could not make the pass however and crossed the checkers in fourth for the day.

After four rounds of racing Jarrod McClure sits fourth overall XC1 Pro standings and his teammate Randy Hamilton is also holding down fourth in the XC2 Pro Am class. The JMR team will be ready to go at round 5 in two weeks at the Limestone GNCC.
