The Mountaineer GNCC course was held once again at Marv’s Mountaintop riding area. This track brings to the series its first glimpse of the challenging West Virginia terrain, including steep hills, slick rock gardens, and challenging woods sections. Racers were expecting a near perfect track after some rain showers late Friday afternoon.

DWT’s McClure flooded his ATV on the start hitting the throttle a little to soon and had trouble getting off the starting line. Once going Jarrod quickly made up some positions before going into the woods where he began to tackle the rocky terrain. By the end of lap one McClure was into the seventh position, behind a train of Yamaha riders.

“I definitely didn’t have the start I wanted today, but it was my fault I got a little jumpy out there. I was being a little cautious at first and made a lot of passes by people making mistakes. Going onto lap three I could see all the way to third position in front of me but I just couldn’t get through the pack, ” said McClure.

McClure was able to pass Chris Borich in a rock section, and then get past Jay Shadron as he pitted putting him up into fourth. Jarrod did not hold this position long as Borich got around him in a field section. Jarrod chased Borich on the final lap but could not make anything happen and crossed the checkers was in fifth for the day.

“I made a sketchy move and bombed through some rocks to pass Chris (Borich). I was able to get around him but hurt my right rear tire pretty bad. Once he passed me back I stayed with him till the six-mile marker where him and Brycen dusted me out in the fields. I am happy to get fifth and not lose many points but I want to get back on the box” said McClure.

JMR’s XC2 Pro Am racer Randy Hamilton began his day about the same as Jarrod having to kick his machine multiple times to get running.  Once going Randy charged hard and worked his way up to seventh on the first lap. As the race went on Randy gained positions, and by the final lap had snuck up on Cody Collier and was able to get by him in a split line section which put him in third for the day, marking his second straight podium finish.
