Jarrod McClure Racing’s (JMR) rider Jarrod McClure
remains third overall in the championship points
race after suffering a nasty crash at the John Penton
GNCC this past weekend finishing in tenth overall
for the day. JMR teammate XC2 Pro Am racer Randy
Hamilton continued his consistent way finishing
fourth in the XC2 class.
The John Penton GNCC course is one of the oldest
on the series schedule. The event is held at Sunday
Creek MX Park, which means racers get there first
taste of mx since the Georgia GNCC. The track
looked near perfect in the woods, but with the
high temps the fields were going to be dry and
super dusty for the day.

Jarrod
McClure was in the running for another podium
finish before he went down hard, which sent
him to the pits for repairs, but he remounted
charge to finish an impressive 10th overall
after the wreck |
DWT’s McClure got off to a great start and actually
went into the woods in the third place position.
As the XC1 racers neared the end of the first
lap they all missed a turn at the top of one of
the steeper hill climbs and began trying to find
the course. Jarrod was able to find the course
quickly and come out with the lead going into
the 8-mile marker. McClure did not hold the lead
for long, however, as two riders coming out of
the creek at the end of lap made the pass on him.
“Man what a first lap! I got an awesome start
right where I wanted to be and just fell in line
with everyone else. We hit the big hill behind
the pro pits and I guess Fowler or whoever was
leading missed an arrow. I looked behind myself
and the entire pro class was doing circles in
the woods. I was able to quickly find the course
after dropping over a hill and came out with the
lead, ” said McClure.
As riders went onto lap two and then three Jarrod
maintained third and decided to pit a lap earlier
than Mcgill and Fowler. As he rocketed out of
the pits on a mission to catch back up to the
leaders he caught a bad kicker in the dust, which
sent him flipping over the bars. This crash actually
damaged Jarrod’s ATV so bad he had to return to
the pits to straighten the steering out. Once
going again Jarrod came back from fifteenth overall
up into tenth overall where he would finish for
the day.
“I decided to pit a lap early hoping the next
lap I could get by the leaders, but as I was trying
to catch back up in the dust I caught a nasty
hole and went for a heck of a tumble. I really
want to thank everyone who helped get me going
out there. It’s very frustrating throwing away
a race like that, but I am thankful to not get
injured out there which I owe to Marc Spataro
for keeping me in top physical condition. I will
be ready to get some points back at Snowshoe”
said McClure.

Hamilton is currently 4th in points after
his sixth top five finish this year in the
XC2 Pro-Am Class |
JMR’s XC2 Pro Am racer Randy Hamilton raced his
way to another consistent fourth place finish
in the XC2 class where he battled with regulars
Thomas Koontz and Marty Christofferson for much
of the race.
After eight rounds of racing Jarrod McClure is
still holding down third overall XC1 Pro standings
and his teammate Randy Hamilton is sitting fourth
in the XC2 Pro Am class. The JMR team will be
ready to go at Round 9 in two weeks at the Snowshoe
GNCC.
