Joel Hetrick Clinches ATVriders.com $1,000 Fastest Qualifier Award

Once again racers were greeted to rainy weekend of racing with heavy rain moving in on Friday, which cancelled practice for the amateur, but the rain held off early Saturday for a dry first moto.

DASA Racing’s Hetrick shot out of the gate in moto one to claim the SSI Decals Holeshot Award. “The Maxxis Tires hooked up great and the DASA motor pulled out of there awesome. I just made a little mistake and Chad (Wienen) got around me early,” said Hetrick. A battle to the finish began as Hetrick chased Wienen, mounting several hard charges that kept the crowd on their toes.

“I tried to pull the gap up at the end, but it just didn’t work out, and I settled for second,” said Hetrick, who rode a smart race to place him in a good position going into the final moto of the day.

For the second moto, buckets of rain made for a completely different race track. This didn’t slow down the Corrosion Specialties/Hetrick Racing’s Joel Hetrick, who battled his way through the challenging conditions to place third in the moto, which secured himself third place overall on the day.

According to Hetrick, his Elka Suspension played a huge role in his performance at Sunset Ridge MX. “Jay Gobel with Elka Suspension has been doing a lot of testing with me this year. This weekend he saw some adjustments he wanted to make, so we made them, and it definitely helped out,” said Hetrick. The fastest lap of both the first and second moto would be rode by Hetrick, proving he has the speed to win.

Standing just fifteen points behind the leader, Hetrick is looking to take back the points lead in the upcoming rounds. “Third overall, we didn’t lose too many points, so we’ll go to the next one and try to rip it up,” said Hetrick.

Round seven of the Mt. Dew AMA ATV MX National Championship returns to Millville, MN on June 27th where Joel Hetrick will be looking to get back to the center of the podium as he chases after the championship.
