Though this marked Luburgh’s second consecutive
Terracross number one plate, more importantly, he
recorded his very first victory in the series during
the doubleheader weekend. LSR Racing’s Luburgh dominated
the race early, fell back into second in the middle
stages of the event and then retook the lead at
the end when the leader fell out with overheating
issues.
“That’s all they ever asked me about in the TV
interviews: ‘You’ve won a championship, but you’ve
never won a race,’” said Luburgh. “The line was
different in the sand. I was leading the race,
and he was pushing me pretty well. He was pushing
way harder than I wanted to go. He went a lap
or so ahead of me and overheated. I got it back
and walked away with it. This race really could
have gone any direction. “

Bikeman Performance’s Luburgh finished ninth
in the second of the two races after suffering
his own overheating problems and just clinched
the title. In fact, it marked the only race this
season in which he finished off the podium, which
has been the key to Luburgh’s consecutive championships.
“I overheated on the third lap and was turning
my RZR on and off to keep it out of limp mode,”
said Luburgh. “I was pushing the car hard. It
would overheat, so I was trying my best to keep
it going.
“It went well all season,” added Luburgh, “but
it came down to the end.”

Jason Luburgh
will be expanding his UTV racing in 2016
with plans to join the Bikeman Performance
/ rOtation Motorsports Team to compete
in the GNCC Series along with returning
for to Terracross Racing

Both races were held on a unique course designed
and built by Luburgh and fellow racer Dana Creech.
The Imperial Sand Dunes location with its arid
conditions posed a unique challenges on the track
builders. They used sand and chain link fencing
on the faces of the jumps to help the course stay
consistent throughout the weekend.
“I was worried about building this course all
season,” said Luburgh. “We started with sand and
I didn’t think it was going to hold together.
We watered it a lot and we put down chain link
fencing on the face of the jumps. The desert guys
seemed to like it a little more, which was cool.”
Luburgh will return to UTV competition in 2016
and plans to split his time between GNCC racing
with the Bikeman Performance / rOtation Motorsports
Team, and defending his TerraCross Championship
number one plate.
