Las Vegas, NV (3/19/2015) - Can-Am
/ ITP’s Derek and Jason Murray overcame an extremely
rough Best in the Desert Mint 400 race course
to claim a top ten finish at one of biggest
off-road racing event of the year.
For the first time in SxS racing history,
the SxS racers ran the entire Mint 400 off-road
course used by the pro trucks, and they also
raced for all three laps for total distance
over 350 miles, which took its took on many
of the racers, but the Murray Brothers were
up to the challenge. The race began before
sunrise with 6:00am start, and the Murray’s
had a mid-pack starting position with nearly
60 UTVs in the Pro Class, which meant they
would have to deal with more than their fair
share of dust as they charged past the competition.

charged into the top three early in
the MINT 400 race |
Derek Murray started the race for the team,
and he quickly began moving through the pack.
He drove the first two laps and charged into
the top three position by lap two. However,
just three miles from the main pit at the
end of lap two, the car went into limp mode.
“The Maverick was running strong, but three
miles before the pits on the second lap, we
went into limp mode. We got to the pits and
after about 35 minutes of troubleshooting
we found a wire had pulled out of our aftermarket
fuel management system. We were able to fix
it and get going again,” said Derek.
Derek Murray finished the second lap, and
jumped into the passenger seat with Jason
Murray taking over the wheel for the final
lap. “The Maverick was running great in the
final lap, so I started picking off a couple
people,” said Jason Murray.
Jason Murray kept a fast and steady pace
and was able to get into tenth place before
crossing the finish line. “It was important
to finish, especially in the points chases.
We will have the Turbo ready for the Silver
State and that will give us a little more
speed, so I am really looking forward to that,”
said Jason.
“We still had a good race and we finished.
It was a tough course and there were a lot
of roll over’s and flats, so we were pretty
lucky compared to those guys. We are bummed
we didn’t get on the podium, but the Maverick
once again took us to the finish and kept
our streak going. We plan to come back for
the next round and hopefully get a win,” Derek
Murray added.
