La Crosse, WI (7/18/2015) - The
Root River Racing Team competed at Unadilla MX in
New Berlin, NY during round eight of the Mtn Dew
AMA ATV Motocross National Championship. The team
put in yet another fantastic performance. Overcoming
a practice crash injury, Sam Rowe resiliently landed
a podium position in Pro-Am, and a top five finish
in Pro Sport. Bubba Hicks had one of his best performances
thus far, taking third and fourth overall finishes
in the A classes.
“I crashed Wednesday before Unadilla, my back
is still really sore, so I was struggling on the
track,” said Rowe. Despite the injury, when the
gate dropped on the first Pro-Am moto, Rowe dug
out a good start, and finished fifth place. He
then backed it up with a third place finish in
the second moto, which gave him third overall
on the day. “ I was ecstatic about my Pro-Am podium,
considering I wasn’t 100%,” said Rowe.

After focusing his energy on Pro-Am, Rowe went
6-6 in Pro Sport to salvage a fourth place overall.
Rowe now sits in fifth place points in Pro Sport,
and fourth place in Pro-Am points.
Bubba Hicks had his best weekend of the year
at Unadilla. Hick’s best finish of the weekend
came from production A, where he went 3-3 for
third overall. In 450 A, Hick’s took third and
fourth in his moto’s for a fourth place finish.
“I had good starts and ended up third and fourth
overall in my classes. Unadilla is more high speed
and my style of track, so it worked for me,” said
Hicks.

A top five finish in Pro Sport showed Dylan Tremellen’s
speed. Tremellen went 4-9 for fifth overall, which
leaves him in fourth place in points, but only
a few points down from second. “Hopefully I can
turn some stuff around and podium the next two
races,” said Tremellen. In the Pro-Am class, Tremellen
took eighth in the first moto, but a nasty holeshot
crash in the second moto would take him out of
the running for a good overall finish.
Alex Gillette competed in the 450B and Production
B classes at Unadilla. Gillette captured second
place in the first moto of 450B, setting himself
up well for the second moto. “For my second moto,
I was running in the top three, but then I got
into a crash,” said Gillette, who would consequently
finish twelfth overall. In Production B, Gillette
went 7-8 to take eighth place overall.
Tommy Vossman took a top five finish in open
B class, which was his second best finish of the
season. “I think it was a good weekend. It was
the first dry race of the season so the teammates
had high spirits,” said Vossman. Currently sitting
ninth in points of open B, Vossman plans on improving
next season. “I want to be winning races. It hasn’t
been my year but hopefully next year we can turn
things around.”
Brandon O Neill represented Root River Racing
in the youth classes. O Neill took a third in
90 open senior (12-15) by going 4-3 in his motos.
“In the second moto I passed my way to third,
and battled it out between the other top two riders,”
said O Neill. In super mini (12-15), O Neill took
a top five finish, and then finished sixth place
overall in 90 shifter (12-15). O Neill would also
like to wish his competitor, Brogan Guyer, a speedy
recovery from a broken collarbone.
Megan Manshack was missing in action at Unadilla
as she took a weekend off from racing with six
wins under her belt already this year, and she
will be back in action at the final two rounds
of the season as she goes for her second straight
Women’s Championship.
The next round of the Mtn Dew ATV Motocross Championship
heads to Red Bud in Michigan on July 25-26th for
ninth round of the season, and the Root River
Racing Team is going for the top of the podium
once again.
