Shelbyville, TN (3/11/2015) - Round 1 of the Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) Racing series kicked off this past weekend in Palatka, Florida. The entire UXC Racing team has been hard at work all winter long training and prepping for the start of the 2015 season.

When the flag dropped for the start of the Pro 4x4 class, UXC racers Michael Swift (#208) and Kevin Trantham (#202) were off the line mid pack in one of the largest Pro 4x4 line ups to date. The eleven mile course is unique to the GNCC circuit comprising of soft sand and palmetto roots. The UXC duo of Swift and Trantham worked their Polaris Scrambler 850’s to the front of the pack by the second lap with Swift holding the #1 spot and teammate Trantham right behind him.

During lap three, Swift encountered a lapped rider which gave Trantham the opportunity to capture the lead. The duo crossed the finished line grabbing the top two podium positions in the Pro 4x4 class. Trantham and Swift also secured the top two overall podium positions for the morning ATV race.

“We had an awesome day out there. We have worked hard and we did just what we needed to do today putting the Polaris Scrambler 1st and 2nd overall on the podium,” stated Swift. All Team UXC members completed Round 1 with good standings. Don Higbee finished with a 3rd place finish in the 4x4 Senior class. Higbee battled for the lead throughout the race. “This podium finish is a great start to the long year,” commented Higbee who is looking forward to getting back on the track next weekend in Georgia.

Graham Widdicombe lined up in the 4x4 A/B class alongside teammate Chris Robinson. Robinson made a rare appearance at Round 1 as his focus is the TORN series in Texas. Robinson came out at the last minute after the TORN Round 1 was canceled due to inclement weather. Robinson came away with a respectable 2nd place finish. Widdicombe encountered issues in the last lap of the race that set him back to a 9th place finish. Nic Snyckers wrapped up a 4th place finish in the 4x4 Novice class.

“I am proud of all the hard work, dedication, and effort my teammates have put into this program over the off season. These finishes today prove that they are dedicated to this sport and our team,” states Swift. Look for Team UXC at Round 2 in Washington, Georgia this weekend.
