Las Vegas, NV (10/30/2015)
– Jennifer Broughton’s 2015 WORCS Women’s Side
by Side season in the Women’s Powder Puff Class
was all about overcoming adversity and she did,
finishing the season with two victories and
third in the championship points race.
However, it wasn’t easy. Starting out the
year, Broughton didn’t even know if she was
going to race the entire season. In the end,
using a borrowed Polaris RZR from Collins
Webster, Broughton won the season finale and
finished third in a competitive championship
race.

“This was my first year racing in a Side
by Side, so to finish third is pretty spectacular,”
said Broughton. “I had to borrow cars. I had
to race broken cars. It was a difficult season.
When I went down to get my trophy at the final
race, I found out I was third in the championship
and my face just lit up. I don’t like to lose,
but I was definitely happy with how I finished
dealing with what I had this year.”
Broughton’s competitive spirit was showcased
in a “win-it-or-break-it” run this season.
She won two races, including the season finale,
along with a runner-up finish in Round 2.
She had trouble in four races, finishing out
of the top five, mostly due to mechanical
break downs. So finishing the season with
a victory was huge for Broughton.
“I was on a mission at the last race,” said
Broughton. “They did something with the gearing
before Collins’ race and the car didn’t do
well. Luckily they had time to change the
gearing before my race, but I wasn’t sure
how the car was going to respond. I was second
off the start and I was able to make the pass
for the lead on the sixth turn. From there,
I ran my own race.”

Many might view the Women’s Class as place
where the ladies are out there just having
fun. However, Broughton is quick to point
out that some of the top racers in WORCS competition
are women.
“Ever since I was little, I was racing dirt
bikes; I’ve always race with the guys,” said
Broughton. “There are a lot of good women
racers in this class. I’m excited to be racing
with these girls. There is nothing Powder
Puff about this class. The women are there
to win and a lot of them did.”
Broughton is still working on a deal to race
next season. She hopes to return with her
own car contend for the championship in 2016.

“I’m keeping my eyes open for next year,”
said Broughton. “We did great this year despite
our obvious competitive disadvantage, so I’m
hoping to have my own car. We’ll see how things
work out in the next month because January
is coming quickly.”
The 2016 WORCS season opener on January 9th
at Honolulu Hills in Taft, California, and
Broughton is looking to make a run for the
championship in her second year of SxS racing.
