H&M Motorsports' David Haagsma Wins Iron Mine WORCS
WORCS Racing Round 8 Iron Mine Race Report

Bakersfield, CA (6/1/2016) - H&M Motorsports’ David Haagsma won in his return to WORCS Pro ATV competition at Iron Mine Race Park in Cedar City, UT. After dominating early in the Pro SXS race, his car caught fire and he finished tenth.

Haagsma is running full time in the AMA ATV National Championship this season, as well as the WORCS Pro SXS series, but the defending WORCS Pro ATV champion switched gears and ran the ATV race, as well. From the start, Haagsma was on a mission, taking the lead from former teammate, Beau Baron, on the second lap and setting sail from there.

“I really like this track, so I figured I’d come out and run it,” said Haagsma. “I had some problems in the SXS yesterday, so this is a little redemption. It’s been awhile since I raced a quad in WORCS, so I was nervous on the line because Beau is always a great competitor. It feels great to get this win. I’ve been struggling back east and had some bad luck. To get back in the top spot feels great.”

In the Pro SXS race, Haagsma took the lead at the start and begin to check out. However, on the final lap, due to contact with another competitor, his RZR stalled and the exhaust caught on fire while he was attempting to restart it. After quickly extinguishing the flames, he rebounded to finish tenth to salvage some points.

“I was having an issue part way through the race where my clutch wouldn’t let go, so I couldn’t slow down too much, or it would stall the car,” explained Haagsma. “On the final lap, I was passing a lapper, he pinned it into the corner and we hit. I stalled the car and while trying to restart it in gear, I just loaded up the engine and the exhaust caught on fire. I was able to restart it and end up tenth.”

Despite the finish, Haagsma still sits just 10 points out of the lead in the WORCS Pro SxS point’s championship.

“It’s a real bummer because that win would have given me the points lead,” said Haagsma. “We’re going to need some good luck in the last two races to get the championship. So we’re shooting for two wins at the end of the year.”

Haagsma heads back to the AMA ATV Motocross National Championship for Round 6 of the series, June 4-5 at Monster Mountain MX in Tallassee, AL.
