cash & prizes |
The special two-day event was split into two
different disciplines. On Friday, Mills ran consistently
in his two short course motos, held on a one-mile
GP flat track style circuit. He followed that
up with a runner-up finish in a three-hour night
race held on a 10-plus-mile track that featured
the short course, combined with a cross country
style track.

All Terrain Communications' Payton
Mills had a large crowd of family &
friends trackside at the Durhamtown Southern
SxS National & they had plenty to celebrate
with his success on the track both days |
“I had a great time and this is really exciting,”
said Mills. “Jim with Addict Racing, Owen Motorsports
and All Terrain Communications have helped us
out a bunch. I especially want to thank my dad.
He is the reason I’m able to race.”
In the short-course event, Mills learned a lot
about setup. He plans to bring that knowledge
back next year. “It was an interesting race,”
said Mills. “Those Yamahas were hard to run down.
I think we’ll be able to keep up with them next
year.”

Payton Mills really shined at night during
the 3 Hour endurance race finishing 2nd,
which boosted him to 2nd Overall |
“Honestly I was just trying to keep up with that
#44 of Mickey Thomas,” said Mills. “The dust was
pretty bad and the night course was something
else. We did everything we could, the car held
together, the pits were ready for us, and I’m
thankful for this.”
Mills has had a productive 2016 season. After
running in the West Coast-based WORCS Series,
he is planning to compete in several series in
2017.

Behind
any successful SXS racer is a great team
& Payton gives a big thanks to his dad,
Chris Mills, along with all his sponsors
that made the trip down to Georgia that
helped make his 2nd place finish possible |
“This season has been interesting,” said Mills.
“We tried running out West and we met a lot of
friends. We learned a lot of new things. I think
we’re going to transition into a Yamaha and run
some TORC races and maybe some Lucas Oil events.”
Look for Mills to continue to be a top force
in SXS racing next season.
