Holland, MI (1/14/2016)
- Racer Tech’s Logan Gastel teamed up with Josh Lucero and drove a Can-Am Maverick Turbo to a second-place finish in class, and third overall, in the Best in the Desert Series Parker 250 on January 9th.
Gastel started on the third row and after a battle with the Murray brothers, he pitted running fifth. After making up two spots in the pits, Gastel took the lead, but after about 30 miles a rear banjo bolt broke on the rear brake caliper. He lost one spot with no rear brakes, but held strong for the runner-up finish, his best in BITD competition.

“It’s a second place, but it feels like I won the Super Bowl,” said Gastel. “We had over 100 hours in preparation just for this race. So it justifies all of that time spent working on the car and developing our racing program. It’s finally starting to pay off. Maybe the package we have is the one that will work. We’ll find out in February.”
Gastel said the Can-Am powertrain along with the Racer Tech chassis and suspension components is a winning combination.

“We have 11,000 race miles on this Racer Tech chassis with zero failures,” said Gastel. “We have close to 13,000 miles on Racer Tech’s long-travel kit and it’s eating up everything we throw at it. You combine that with the Can-Am powertrain, and we have a competitive car.”
Gastel is running the two-seat Maverick, which features a shorter wheelbase. While many are switching to the longer wheelbase four-seat chassis, Gastel believes in the shorter wheelbase.
“The two-seat chassis just seems like it’s a bit nimbler, especially in the tighter stuff,” said Gastel. “I still believe in the two-seat chassis. It finishes races and finishes on top.”
