Amateur Red Bud MX Race Report
La Crosse, WI (8/11/2016) - Root
River Racing competed at the tenth round of the
2016 AMA ATV Motocross National Championship at
RedBud MX in Buchanan, MI. Noah Mickelson and Logan
Tremellen both took a first overall finish and the
rest of the team contributed five more podium finishes.
Taking first overall with flawless 1-1 moto finishes
in Production C was Root River Racing’s Logan
Tremellen. After this win, Tremellen sits just
three points out of the points lead heading into
the final round at Loretta Lynn’s. In 450 C, Tremellen
won the first moto but took eighth the second
moto for sixth overall.
Noah Mickelson wrapped up the national championship
already in both 450 B and Open B. He continued
to race in Open B at RedBud, where he went 1-1
for first overall. Instead of running 450 B however,
he replaced it with College 16-24 and took sixth
overall in his debut with impressive 6-3 moto
finishes.
“It was really cool to see the different speeds
I have to run with. Coming back from RedBud I
am going to work a little harder and train harder
so I can keep up with them. It was a lot of fun,”
said Mickelson.
Dylan Tremellen took second overall in Pro Sport
with 4-2 moto finishes and fifth overall in Pro
Am with 7-5 moto finishes. “Second moto of Pro
Am I pulled the start and led a few laps. The
rough track got to me. I don’t really get to ride
anything like this at home, so it’s tough for
me, but we will come back at Loretta’s and make
the best of it,” explained Tremellen.
Brandon O Neill had another spectacular weekend,
taking third overall in all three classes he entered:
Supermini, Youth All Star, and Schoolboy Sr. In
Youth All Star, O Neill rocketed his Root River
Racing Honda off the gate to take the holeshot
and led the race for two and a half laps. “I am
super pumped about the weekend it was really good
for points. I am excited for Loretta’s, it is
my favorite track,” said O Neill who is currently
third in points for all three of his classes.
JoHannah Vossman took fifth overall in WMX and
third overall in Schoolgirl 13-17. Vossman had
one of her best motos of the season in WMX on
Sunday.
“I had a rough day Saturday. My mind wasn’t really
in it and I couldn’t get good starts and get my
groove. Sunday was a lot better. I came out and
got third in the start and third in the moto in
Schoolgirl, and had my best WMX race of the year.
I came out with a terrible start because I got
hit. I was almost dead last and managed to make
my way back up to third. I made three passes in
the last two laps. I just stayed calm, kept my
cool, made passes, and stayed smooth so it really
turned out for the better,” stated Vossman.
Haedyn Mickelson struggled with some bad luck,
but maintained a positive attitude and put in
the best motos he could. Mickelson took eighth
overall in Pro Sport and twelfth in Pro Am.
“This weekend luck definitely didn’t go my way.
I ended up doing really good the first moto of
Pro Sport until the last lap. I was running fourth
place and then me and a couple other people got
together and I ended up finishing eighth. Hopefully
I can get all that past me and have some good
luck at Loretta Lynn’s to finish out strong,”
said Mickelson.
Alex Gillette rode in College 16-24 and 450 A.
“My weekend went pretty well. I got good starts
and battled as hard as I could. I rode really
well through the rough stuff and just did the
best I could. I was proud of myself. My best race
was in College moto one. I got about second out
of the holeshot and ended up third,” said Gillette.
In College Gillette took seventh overall, and
14th overall in 450 A.

Tyler Mack had a tough weekend at RedBud in 450
A and Production A, “I got hit every single holeshot
this weekend and had to work up from the back.”
Mack’s lap times are strong and he makes great
passes but said he needs to work on his starts
moving forward, “The holeshots are killing me.
Once I get out front good, I can stay there, I
just need a good start for once.”
Root River Racing’s amateur riders will compete
at the eleventh and final amateur points round
of the 2016 AMA ATV Motocross National Championship
at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in Hurricane Mills, TN
August 13-14.
