ATV racers competing in this year’s 10th Anniversary
GBC Motorsports Heartland Challenge will be fighting
for a top prize of $2,000, race organizers announced
today. In addition, Friday’s events will include
a 30-minute “12-volt” race for children competing
in Power Wheels-type vehicles. The Heartland Challenge
is scheduled for August 18-19.
The aptly named Wonder Woman class allows for
one-driver teams to compete iron woman style for
the top prize in the 10-hour endurance race. The
class will also pay back 100% of entries based
on finishing position and entry numbers, as well
as including GBC Bucks contingency payouts. The
entry fee is just $200.
“It’s incredible that someone would be that generous,”
said race promoter Andy Kyner. “This almost never
happens, so this is great for everybody. It brings
attention to the whole sport and especially to
the women’s class.”
The Heartland Challenge is about wholesome family
fun. Exemplifying that feeling will be a special
kids race being run Friday, August 18. The class
is open to children five years and younger riding
any 12-volt battery-powered Power Wheels-type
vehicle. The race is 30 minutes in length. Every
participant will receive a plaque and all will
be entered to win a Shelby Mustang GT 12 Volt
car worth $500 courtesy of Toys’r’Us of South
Des Moines.
“This is something we’ve done at our local races
and we’ve seen up to 20 kids enter,” said Kyner.
“It’s incredible to allow the kids to race. This
just adds yet another aspect to the family feeling
of this race. All these kids get to say they competed
at the Heartland Challenge and it should be a
lot of fun to watch.”
Drawing competitors and spectators from across
the country, the Heartland Challenge offers four
unique endurance races for youth and adults. Last
year more than 150 teams from 21 states, Canada
and the UK competed across 21 classes for trophies,
cash payouts and bragging rights.
2017 promises to be another big year for the
GBC Motorsports Heartland Challenge as the 1.5-hour
Polaris Ace Challenge, the four-hour UTV Challenge,
the three-hour Youth ATV Challenge and the 10-hour
Adult ATV Challenge will determine the fastest
teams and ironman competitors.
