Chaney kicked of the TORC Off Road Championship

finishes at the TORC Off-Road Season Opener
in Chicago, IL |
The event was held on a track set up on the dirt
oval and infield and featured technical rhythm
sections combined with a table top, several jumps
and tight turns. Each 16-lap race featured a scheduled
competition caution at the halfway point. On the
restart, racers were allowed to take one lap on
a Joker Lane that shortcuts the infield section
of the track.
In the first race, Chaney made his way to second
and nearly won the race. Drag racing out of the
final turn, Chaney finished just .04 of a second
behind the winner in his Can-Am X3.

Kyle Chaney raced the Can-Am Maverick X3
at the TORC Series in the Pro Mod UTV Class |
“I went for the pass on the last corner and it
was nose to nose at the finish line,” said Chaney.
“It was a good race, my Can-Am worked great and
CT Race Worx built me a good car. During practice
I thought the track was horrible. In qualifying,
it got better and when the water evaporated out
of the track for the race, it was great.”
On day two, Chaney followed the leader for most
of the race and ran second virtually unchallenged.
He battled the conditions on the track that changed
from wet and slippery at the beginning to dry
and tacky at the end, but his Maxxis Tire set
up was spot on.
“We went two and two and I’m really happy with
my first short-course weekend,” said Chaney. “The
first half of the race, I set my tires up for
when the track got dry. I ran Maxxis Ceros on
the front and Buckshots on the front. It doesn’t
matter what Maxxis Tire you run, it’s going to
be good.”

Kyle Chaney heads to back to GNCC Racing
in two weeks for the John Penton, where
is leading the points after two rounds |
Chaney had trouble with his setup at the beginning
of the weekend. Calling in a few favors, he got
some pointers that helped him dial in his Fox
Shocks for the races.
“I just got my Fox Shocks back a couple days
ago and I only got to test before my motor was
tuned, so that changed the setup,” said Chaney.
“I was a second and half off the pace in practice.
I called my buddy Larry Pegram. He used to race
this kind of stuff. He told me how to change my
setup and I looked at Tim Farr’s setup. I changed
everything and dropped a second and a half.”
Chaney will return GNCC competition at the John
Penton at Sunday Creek Raceway in Millfield, OH.
That race is scheduled for May 27-28. The next
TORC race is scheduled for June 10-11 at ERX Motorpark
in Elk River, MN.
