Maxxis / Elka's
Grayson Eller & Mickelson Brothers Win at
Eagle River UTV/ATV Derby
Salisbury, NC (8/25/2017) - Maxxis/Elka/Liquid
Wrench/Honda’s amateur race team aren’t resting
on their laurels and were back racing…and winning…during
the World Championship UTV/ATV Derby at the Eagle
River Derby Track. Brothers Noah and Haedyn Mickelson,
along with teammate Grayson Eller all recorded
wins during the special event in Northern Wisconsin.
The facility, which is usually used for snocross
and snowmobile oval racing in the winter was transformed
for the special UTV and ATV event. Noah Mickelson
and Haedyn Mickelson finished first and second
in the Pro class.
“In the main, Noah took the holeshot and I came
out fourth,” said Haedyn Mickelson. “The track
was really tight, and Noah pulled a big gap. I
was battling for third place for almost have the
race. As soon as the cross flags came out, I took
third. By that time, Noah had a massive lead.
I tried to put in a little bit of a charge, but
it was hard to make up a lot of ground with the
number of lappers. I was a really fun race. Noah
took the win and I ended up second.”
In Pro-Am, the roles were reversed as the brothers
split the motos, and Haedyn took the overall victory.
The brothers had fun pushing each other during
the events.
“In the first moto, I pulled holeshot and led
the whole thing and, in the second moto, he pulled
the start and led the entire race,” said Haedyn
Mickelson. “We were pushing each other the entire
time. He was right on me and I was right on him.
It was a fun race.”
Eller took the overall win in the 450 A, Production
A, and Pro Sport class to secure three titles
at the event. He said it was nice to be back racing
so soon after the end of the AMA ATV Motocross
Championship season.
“It was fun to go up there and do a local event,”
said Eller. “This helped us get some exposure.
I had some good competition. I got to practice
some starts, and I got the win.”
The trio of amateurs will now spend the off-season
competing in GNCC events. Haedyn Mickelson will
return to the 4X4 A class, where he scored a runner-up
finish before the summer break.
“My plan is to race the last four rounds of GNCC
on the utility quad,” said Mickelson. “I’m hoping
to pick up where I left off. I’m looking forward
to get back into the 4X4 racing. That second place
was really cool and I know I can do that again.
Those guys are pretty insane on the woods on those
things, but I’m looking forward to it.”
Look for the Maxxis/Elka/Liquid Wrench/Honda
amateurs as the GNCC Series returns from the summer
break September 9-10 at Unadilla MX in New Berlin,
NY.
