class at the Mint 400 |
The brothers started ninth in their Can-Am
Maverick X3 in the rough 300-plus mile event.
By the end of the first lap, they broke into
the top three and drove a near-perfect race,
save a late fueling problem, to net the runner-up
finish.
“We just ran smooth and steady all day,”
said Derek Murray. “The car wanted to go faster,
so we’ll push a little harder next time. We
always want the win, but one little thing
will take out these days. Out of a 110-plus
cars we finished second, so we’re proud of
our team and proud of the Can-Am X3.”

out of the box |
Aside from the rollcage and safety equipment,
the Can-Am X3 is essentially the same one
anyone can buy off the showroom floor. Jason
Murray said the podium finish in arguably
the toughest race on the calendar is testament
to the machine’s durability and competitiveness
out of the box.
“This is a stock platform and it’s pretty
impressive to see what these machines can
do with a stock suspension, stock drivetrain
and stock engine,” said Jason Murray. “We’ll
go back to the drawing board and make this
machine a little bit faster.
The Murrays will be back in action as the
Best in the Desert Series next heads to Laughlin,
NV for the UTV World Championship April 14-15.
