Arctic Cat ATV / UTV Engine Facility

Arctic Cat ATV / UTV Engine Facility Tour
::Continued::

Once the engine is completely assembled, it is tested twice to ensure that there aren’t any leaks or tolerance issues with a Cold Spin Test and Dyno Test. The Cold Spin Test performs a total of 53 separate test over a two-minute evaluation while the engine cranks through the cycle without any fluids or combustion, which test for oil pressure, magneto, oil pump, compression, electronics, valve timing, air leaks, and more. Once the engine passes the CST, it moves onto dyno testing, and the engine is filled with fluids and run for six-minutes over various RPM ranges to determine if the engine is ready for shipment.

Once the engine assembly is complete, the engine is run though a Cold Spin Test (above left), which performs 53 different test on the engine to ensure it is ready for fluids & combustion, so once it passes the CST, the engine moves onto the dyno testing room (above right) for its final test with all fluids before being shipped to the Thief River Falls, MN facility for assembly in an ATV or UTV model

Several hundred completed ATV / UTV engines are stacked and ready to ship in a first in first out flow
The completed engines are palletized for shipment to Thief River Falls, MN for placement in one of Arctic Cat’s ATV or UTV models, and to keep inventories low, Arctic Cat produces engines on a just in time basis, and several different engine displacements can be produced on the same day with very little changes to the assembly line because all four of their current engines utilize very similar components.

While the economy has dramatically slowed down the total production of ATVs & UTVs from all the manufacturers, Arctic Cat has been able to maintain a strong presence with exciting new models, which includes the new Mud Pro 1000 released in 2010 along with expanding their 550 lineup for more price sensitive buyers.

If a big bore Utility ATV or UTV is on your shopping list in the near future, be sure to visit you local Arctic Cat dealer because they have plenty of different models to fit nearly everyone’s need.
