Silver Lake, MI - While the west coast and desert southwest offer plenty of sand dune recreational sites for off-road vehicle use, sand dunes that are accessible to SxS and ATV’s are far and few between in the mid-west with one exception. The Silver Lake Sand Dunes is one of the largest sand dune recreation areas east of the Mississippi, boasting 2000 acres that are divided into three different sections and offer plenty of activities to keep everyone happy.

The sand dunes border Lake Michigan and Silver Lake, creating a scenic and unique recreational area and consist of large, rolling dunes. The middle section of the dunes is reserved for hikers and has access to both Lake Michigan and Silver Lake, but the northern section, consisting of a 500 acre parcel, is reserved just for off road vehicles and is where all the action is.

In the summer, the Silver Lake Sand Dunes plays host to the Mt. Baldy Hillclimb. At over 100ft., Mt. Baldy is one of the largest dunes in the off-road area and is a popular spot all season long for SxS / ATV enthusiasts to test the horsepower of their machines. But if hill climbing isn’t your thing, there are plenty of other options for leisurely riding or drag racing.
