Minneapolis, MN (7/23/2007) - For
2008, Polaris has simplified its Sportsman line along
with adding new complementary models that will appeal
to a wider variety of customers.
For 1-Up ATVs, Polaris has added more
power to the Sportsman 800 EFI, brought back the carbureted
Sportsman 500 H.O. and is introducing the Sportsman
400 H.O. in a mid-size chassis.
Polaris’ offering of 2-Up vehicles
has new options with the addition of the Touring line.
These all-the-time 2-Up machines, available in 800cc
and 500cc models, offer more value than competitive
2-Up models and are the most comfortable ATVs ever
with more features for passenger comfort than any
other 2-Up ATV. Touring passengers will enjoy more
room than found on competitive 2-Up models; a larger,
taller backrest; soft, vibration-absorbing hand holds;
adjustable, vibration-absorbing foot rests and dual
cup holders. Polaris also will offer the versatile
Sportsman X2 in 700cc and 500cc. Customers will find
the Sportsman 700 X2 as the, “World’s
Best Value Big Bore 2-Up ATV,” with its highly
competitive price tag that offers a 2-Up configuration
at the same price as some of the competitors 1-Up
machines.

All Polaris 2-Up ATVs also feature an
exclusive VERSATRAC system and rolled Independent
Rear Suspension (IRS). The Polaris VERSATRAC system
enables the rider to choose Turf mode, 2-wheel drive
or On Demand All-Wheel Drive (AWD) by a thumb switch
on the handlebar. When in Turf mode, the Sportsman
X2 provides 20 percent tighter turns and minimizes
damage to soft terrain. To optimize the ride when
carrying a passenger or loads, the rolled IRS angles
the A-arms and 2-stage springs creating wheel travel
that moves up and back.
All fuel injected Sportsman models come
standard with the Polaris Engine Braking System (EBS)
and intelligent Active Descent Control (ADC). Engine
braking assists in braking on steep inclines, while
ADC provides four-wheel braking when the vehicle is
in AWD, is operating at speeds below 15 mph and there
is no throttle being applied.

To make the “World’s Toughest
ATVs” even tougher, most Sportsman models also
are being offered in a variety of new painted colors
that are nine times more durable than standard plastic.
Along with being more durable, the process has a repairable
finish so scratches can be fixed.
Customers will continue to find standard
features such as independent rear suspension, true
On Demand All-Wheel Drive, the industry’s best-selling
automatic Polaris Variable Transmission and tough
bodywork with more on-board storage than the competition.
