- The top motocross riders on four-wheels
head to round two of the chase for the most
prestigious championship in their sport this
Sunday at the legendary Millcreek Motocross
Park in Pell City, Alabama, just outside of
Birmingham. The event features the pro portion
of the AMA ATV Motocross Championship, and
also serves as the opening round of the amateur
portion of the Moose Racing/ITP Tires AMA
ATV Motocross Championship presented by Parts
Unlimited.
Millcreek Raceway has become a favorite on
the tour, as the track features wide lanes,
flowing natural jumps and enormous elevation
changes. Tickets on Sunday are $15 for fans
($10 for ages 6-11), and admission includes
full pro pit access, and an autograph session.
As part of the event, Moose Racing and Parts
Unlimited will host a dinner show at the track
on Saturday night, with dinner served free
to racers and their families.
Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider Dustin Wimmer
leads the way as the defending AMA Pro ATV
Motocross Champion. He also took the win at
round one of the 2009 tour at Glen Helen Raceway
in California just two weeks ago. The Center
Valley, Pa. resident expects a challenge at
Millcreek from Joe Byrd, the 2006 and 2007
AMA Pro Motocross Series' Champion on a Honda
from Union City, Tennessee who came in third
at Glen Helen. Josh Creamer, of the Monster
Energy Kawasaki team, took second at Glen
Helen and could prove to be Wimmer's toughest
competitor this season. In addition, nationally-recognized
stars including Doug Gust, John Natalie, Jeremy
Lawson, Chad Wienen will make up a full gate
of talent in the pro class, backed by high-budget
factory race teams. Hometown hero, Keith Little
of Spruce Pine, Ala., will also be there on
his Monster Energy Kawasaki.
The pro class will feature two 20-minute
races on Sunday, taking place at noon and
3 p.m., with the combined scores of both races
determining the overall winner.
The pro riders will run as part of a full
schedule of amateur racing, including classes
for Youth, Women and veteran riders. Amateurs
will practice on Friday and race on Saturday
and Sunday. Pros will practice on Saturday
and race on Sunday.
To get to the track from Birmingham take
I-20 East to Exit # 156; turn South and take
first road on the right which is Roberts Mill
Rd. Track is a short distance on the left.
